"You won not because of your lawyer, but because you're not in the right in the first place, Ms Moss. You sold your body and your relationship, so they have the right to treat you as an item."
Lucas Phillips was a businessman by nature. There was no way she was getting away with her ulterior motives.
"Humph, and you call yourself a number one lawyer? That's bullshit."
Sofia snorted and strode away in her high heels to hail a taxi.
After a failed lawsuit and being scolded by the person involved, Mia was not in a good mood. She was about to get into her car to find somewhere to vent when a strong arm stopped the door.
"You?"
Looking at the person who stopped her, Mia's frown deepened. What does Lucas Phillips want with her?
"It's me, pretty lawyer lady. Are you frustrated because you lost the lawsuit?"
Lucas put one hand in his pocket and said in a mocking tone. This was the first time he went to court with a woman. If he lost, he would be the butt of the joke for the rest of his life.
"Is this your way of celebrating your win?"
Mia didn't hold back her snark at all. This man was such a jerk, but he was still so shameless. She really didn't know if he was really thick-skinned or if he was just ignorant.
"Why don't we celebrate together, weak lady lawyer? Maybe I'll give you a house and a car after tonight."
Lucas looked at the woman in front of him with a smile. She had black eyes and wore a black business suit, black eyes with her hair tied back in a simple ponytail behind her head. He was not interested in her at all. He just had the inexplicable urge to embarrass her further before she left.
Mia managed to swallow back her anger and gave him a small smile, while a hint of disdain flashed in her eyes. "Mr Phillips, are you bribing me so that no one will know you don't actually do anything to the women you spend the night with? From what I can see in the lawsuit between you and Ms Moss, you don't seem to work that way. Were you involved in a brain-damaging accident recently? You should get someone to check that out for you."
"You..."
He wanted to embarrass her, but he ended up being the one humiliated. Lucas wanted to tear the woman in front of him apart. Was she implying that he had trouble in bed? Was she insane?
"If there's nothing else you want to say, please get out of the way, Mr Phillips. Otherwise, I might consider recommending an andrologist to you. I don't know you at all, Mr Phillips, so I don't think that's appropriate."
After saying that, Mia pointed at Lucas's hand, which was still on her car door stopping her from closing it. If he insisted on stopping her, there would be rumours in North City tomorrow.
"You have guts. Let's just wait and see."
Lucas's eyes were burning with anger. He would keep this woman in mind and deal with her in the future.
"I'll keep you in mind too, Mr Phillips. I hope we can meet again when we have the chance."
Sooner or later, she would defeat him in court.
"Damn it."
Lucas cursed and got on the Ferrari beside them. The next second, the car whizzed away from her, almost choking her with the exhaust.
"Lucas Phillips, what the h*ll!"
Mrs Maynard had had years of experience, so she understood what had happened immediately. Luz frowned. She would rather stay back late working as a secretary than be a coffee runner for Henry.
"It's not in her job description to make coffee."
Henry snorted and walked toward the dining room.
"Luz, you came back just in time for dinner. Go wash your hands and take a seat, you're so thin."
The old lady also stood up from the sofa and pulled Luz to the dining room with a smile.
The table was already overflowing with a sumptuous dinner. The dishes were all her favourite. She put a hand on her flat stomach. She had been really busy today. She was hungry.
"Try this roast chicken, it smells really good." The old lady put a large piece of chicken onto her plate.
"Mother, young girls are almost always on a diet nowadays. Don't give her too much meat, maybe she doesn't want it. It would be a complete waste if she has to throw that away later."
Beside them, Maddison said with a displeased look on her face. She was really jealous of the way the old lady treated Luz. She had been married into the Maynard family for so many years, yet her mother-in-law had never treated her so well.
"Don't talk nonsense here. Luz is almost as thin as a pole. If she doesn't make up for it, how can she give birth to my precious great-granddaughter?"
"..."
The atmosphere was awkward enough before this, but now, Luz could barely hide her discomfort on her face. She and Henry had been divorced for seven years, how could they have another child?
