Chapter 242 I Was Always at Your Beck and Call

The words that followed, I didn’t say, I just nervously clenched my hands.

Seeing my panic, Walter squeezed my hand and said, “Don’t worry just yet. The coroner only said it’s a possibility. They haven’t done the autopsy yet. Let’s wait for the results and then we’ll figure out what to do.”

I suppressed my unease, waiting for him to finish his call with Captain Lucas.

Perhaps hearing my voice, Captain Lucas began, “The autopsy results are not out yet, nothing can be determined. Without solid evidence, the police won’t take any other actions.” He said this to me, as if to

reassure me.

I pursed my lips, without uttering a word.

Walter asked over the phone, “What’s the deal with the skeletons around Henry?”

“It should be the people who died at Henry’s hands before, judging by the timeline, it should be those who had offended him during his reign. The identities of these deceased have not yet been revealed,” Captain Lucas began, pausing before adding, “However, the police station might need to call Daniel in.”

Walter didn’t respond, he simply said, “This is your police department’s business.”

After speaking, he hung up the phone.

Looking at Walter, I was puzzled, “The body has already been found, why do the police still need to interrogate Daniel? Both he and Sebastian were involved in this because of me.”

Walter looked at me, his dark eyes slightly sinking, “He helped you hide the body, and accidentally hid it in Henry’s lair, and even accidentally involved other murders. Do you really think there are so many coincidences in this world?”

I frowned, “The Heart Island is remote, and that place had been abandoned for a long time. It’s the best place to hide a body. Isn’t it normal that Daniel would choose there?”

He raised an eyebrow, “You think so because you are familiar with the geography of River City, but Daniel is from Freyhedge, he has only been in River City for just over a month. How do you think he knew such a good place to hide a body in such a short time?”

I was stunned, unable to articulate a reasonable explanation for a

moment.

So, the topic was stopped here.

Although Henry’s body was found, the problems we had to face were even more troublesome. Naturally, I couldn’t get out of the police’s sight, and I went to the police station with Walter again.

Fortunately, Captain Lucas vouched for me on the grounds that I was very cooperative with the police investigation. I didn’t have to stay at the police station to wait for the investigation results, but could come over anytime when summoned. This allowed me not to have to continue staying at the police station.

When Walter and I were preparing to leave, we ran into Daniel who was coming.

we nuched in by someone, a good-looking man in a wheelchair,

which inevitably drew a few extra glances.

Upon seeing me and Walter, Daniel’s eyes slightly narrowed. Then, hist dark pupils shifted towards me, and he asked in a calm voice, “Has the matter been resolved?”

I shook my head slightly, looking at him and said, “I’m sorry for dragging you into this.” He came here, simply because he was summoned for questioning.

He smiled lightly, seemingly unconcerned, and said, “No problem, we’re not strangers to each other. It’s my honor to be able to help you.”

I was stunned, shocked by his sudden words. He didn’t seem like the type to make such ambiguous remarks, and in the few times I had. interacted with him before, he had never said anything like this.

I distinctly felt the temperature in the air drop sharply, something was off. I glanced sideways at Walter, his face unchanged, but his dark eyes were fixed on Daniel, who was smiling. I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, but I always felt that there was a warning in Walter’s gaze at that moment.

And Daniel, clearly not caring, just glanced at him, and looked at me with a dismissive smile, saying, “Feel free to call on me anytime in the future, I’ll be there whenever you need.”

At that moment, I had no idea what to say. I watched him pull a smile uglier than crying, and in the end, I could only utter two words, “Thank you.”
