Chapter 271 His Concern

It wasn’t that I had suffered any serious injury, thanks to Walter not going all out, otherwise I would have been paralyzed.

The doctor had examined her thoroughly and found nothing serious. However, he said that she needed to be observed in the hospital for a while longer. After all, she had injured her bone, and a woman’s bone is not like a man’s. When injured, it is ultimately more precious and requires more careful attention.

I didn’t have any objections either, I agreed.

Lying in the hospital bed, she had already spent several days hungry and cold in the police station. Now, just after getting out, she was injured by her ex-husband. Truly, she was physically and mentally exhausted.

With the painkillers that the doctor had prescribed for me, it wasn’t long before I fell asleep on the hospital bed.

Perhaps the hospital bed was much more comfortable than the one in the police station, I slept so soundly that I hardly dreamed at all.

When I woke up, it was already nightfall. The pain in my waist was gone, and my previously groggy mind had cleared up quite a bit. The light in the hospital room was dim, and there was a figure sitting not far across from me.

thought it was Cory, gently shifted my body, and called out to the figure, “Cory?”

He didn’t respond to me, instead, he stood up and walked towards me. Due to the dim light and possibly because I was lying down, I always

felt that Cory’s figure seemed exceptionally tall.

I didn’t care too much, I raised my hand to pinch my brow, and said, “Cory, I’m a bit hungry, is there anything to eat?”

He didn’t reply to me, but he did leave the ward. Seeing this, I didn’t think much of it. I closed my eyes and rested for a while. Perhaps because I had been at the police station for the past few days, I managed to sleep well this time. However, I really wanted to get up and go outside for some fresh air.

But after all, this was a hospital. I shifted my body and got up. My back wasn’t completely healed, but it didn’t affect my movement. Standing in front of the window, looking at the city lights outside, I couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

The door to the ward was opened, I turned around, but the light in the ward was suddenly turned on. Having been in the dark for a long time, the sudden light was too much for my eyes. I squinted towards the door, only to see a man in a black suit. I didn’t pay much attention to him, because I was hungry, my eyes instinctively focused on the meal box he was holding in his hand.

Without giving it much thought, he took the meal box and sat down to the side. As he opened the box, he said, “Cory, you’re really fast. I thought it would take a while. The police station is really not a place for people to stay, it’s both hungry and cold…”

“Did they berate you?” A cold, deep male voice suddenly came from behind. I had just taken a bite of the hot food and hadn’t swallowed it yet. The sound startled me so much that I choked in excitement.

“Cough, cough, cough!” I started coughing violently, and the person behind me anxiously handed me water.

I took it, took a sip, and let out a sigh of relief.

Wiping away the tears that had been coughed out, I looked at the handsome face in front of me. I swallowed, unable to help but ask, “What are you doing here?” I had been so focused on eating that I hadn’t noticed it was Walter who had come in, not Cory.

Walter didn’t answer my question. Instead, he looked over my shoulder, waited until I was feeling better, then finally asked, “What did the people at the police station do to you?”

I shook my head, saying, “No, I was just talking nonsense. Why are you here? Where is Cory?” That was the question I was really concerned about.

Hearing me say this, he slightly furrowed his brows and said, “There was something going on at Cory’s home, so I let him go back first.”

I see.

Upon seeing this, I said, “Thank you for taking care of me, I’m fine now, you can go back.”

After speaking, I was ready to continue eating. Honestly, I was really hungry at that moment. Captain Lucas had prepared some food for me, but because I had been starving for several days, he was afraid that my stomach couldn’t handle too much food all at once, so he only let me eat some porridge and noodles. But it had been a long time since then, and if I didn’t eat something soon, I felt like I would starve to death.

Walter stood by without moving, quietly watching me cat. Occasionally, he would hand me water or tissues, fearing I might choke.
