Chapter 400 Had to Say Goodbye to Everyone

I nodded, ignoring the worry in his dark eyes, and said, “It’s not an explanation, I’m just stating the facts.”

“Tabatha!” A familiar female voice rang out. Instinctively, I turned towards the sound. It was my mother. I hadn’t expected her to be here, it was truly a surprise. Days of longing made my nostrils sting at that moment. Without much thought, I stood up and walked towards my mother, hugging her tightly. The fear and dread of the past few days seemed to have suddenly found a safe haven. I clung to my mother, venting the longing in my heart.

My mother patted my back, her voice full of worry, “Where have you been these past few days, child? Why couldn’t we reach you by phone? You disappeared without a word. The police were looking for you, so was Walter…”

At this point, she paused slightly, still unable to suppress her worry, “They said you were taken by bad people, I thought you were like five years ago, I was almost worried to death. Your father is gone, if anything happens to you, how am I supposed to explain to your father?”

Mother’s tears were soft, the more she spoke, the more they fell pitter- patter.

“Auntie Eileen, it’s okay, don’t cry. The doctor said you can’t always cry, it’s not good for your eyes.” A gentle voice sounded beside me, and I realized that Marjorie was also there.

Releasing my mother, I turned to look at Marjorie, at her exquisitely beautiful features. I couldn’t help but recall the video Ezra had shown

My heart was choked up, I took a breath, cleared my mind, asked my mother to wait for a moment, until I finished talking with Walter, then I would properly explain to her about the future matters of the Conner Group.

Mother glanced at Walter, paused for a moment, then sat down with us, pulling Marjorie along. She said, “Tabatha, I’ve heard a lot about what’s been happening recently. You don’t need to fear that I can’t handle it, and you don’t need to deliberately avoid me.”

Seeing my mother insist on staying, I understood her temperament, so I simply didn’t persist anymore and agreed.

Looking at my mother and Walter, I casually said, “I’ve caused everyone to worry these past few days. Nothing happened to me, I was just with Daniel. It’s the New Year, I got carried away with having fun and forgot to check in with you all. My phone happened to break, so I didn’t get a chance to tell you, causing you to worry.”

Walter looked at me, his dark eyes deep and restrained, his brows furrowed, “Plavful?”

I nodded, knowing that these words had almost no credibility. My mother frowned and said, “Tabatha, what are you saying? What do you mean you and Daniel were fooling around? Didn’t the police say that he is likely the murderer who kidnapped you at the border five years ago? How could you be with him…”

“Mom!” I interrupted her, looking at her, I said, “Daniel is not a bad person, he didn’t hurt me, he was good to me, and I’ve already decided to go to Freyhedge with him.”

“What did you say?”

“Tabatha?”

The former was my mother, the latter was Walter. Looking into

Walter’s unbelievably dark eyes, I felt a lump in my throat. I wanted to tell him everything, but even if I did, it would be useless. Ezra was just a madman, Captain Lucas was dead. I couldn’t risk them anymore.

Looking at them, I held up the pink diamond on my right ring finger and said, “I’ve already agreed to go with him. I’ve been with him these past few days and I’ve been very happy, so I want to live with him in Freyhedge. I might not be able to come back often in the future.”

After speaking, I looked at my mother and said, “Mom, I was originally planning to go back and arrange the Conner Group’s affairs with you later. It’s just right that you’re here now. I’ve already found a lawyer to transfer all the assets left by my father to your name. In the future, you will have absolute say in the operation of the Conner Group. With Alexander helping you, as long as there are no major accidents, even if I’m not by your side, you can still enjoy your old age.”
