Alivia never expected that Romy would suddenly bring up the topic of going to school. After just starting her sophomore year, she chose to take a break and work, and now over a year has passed. During this long period, besides Romy's strong opposition at the beginning, Alivia hadn't heard her mention it again. Alivia always thought that Romy's illness had consumed all her thoughts and she had no energy to consider anything else. But now she realized that Romy had never forgotten; Romy was just waiting for her condition to recover.
"Mom..." Alivia tightened her grip on the lunchbox she was carrying, afraid that her mother would overthink something, so she comforted her mom, "I'm fine."
"I know you're strong-willed, but Alivia, education is essential, and you can't just tough it out. Mom couldn't give you a good start, and for you and Henry, the most important thing is the academic qualification. You worked hard to get accepted, and I won't let you give up halfway."
Seeing that Alivia still wanted to say something, Romy quickly added, "I will make the decision on this matter. When I am discharged from the hospital, you should go to school."
Words that had been suppressed in her heart for so long were now brought up, and Alivia felt a tinge of sadness. No one didn't long for an education, especially someone like her who knew the importance of studying more than anyone else.
But life was difficult, and she didn't even have that right.
Looking at Romy's gradually improving complexion, she couldn't help but feel grateful. If it weren't for the medical expenses provided by Bert several months ago, Romy's surgery might not have been possible, and Alivia didn't know how long she would have to endure.
Alivia shifted her gaze away and let out a deep sigh. Regardless of everything, her life had undergone so many positive changes, and no matter who that man was or what attitude he had, he was someone she needed to be thankful for.
Since staying in Jewel City, Bert had spent most of his time with Lucas. He didn't have much work to do, and many capitalists knew about his return to the country but were all privately turned down by him.
Whenever he had time, Bert immediately had Grace bring Lucas out for leisure and entertainment, and he accompanied Lucas attentively. Even Louis, who had worked for him for nearly ten years, couldn't help but be shocked.
Was this the same workaholic Bert who used to work eighteen hours a day without a break? He was practically a model parent now!
