Marcellus ended up sleeping in the guest room that night. It was the first time he had slept alone in the guest room since he moved here. For a moment, staring at the slightly unfamiliar ceiling of his own house, he found himself lost in thought.
However, the thought of the young woman living in the opposite room, the girl who had officially become his girlfriend and was sleeping in his bed, made his heart feel like it was filled with pink bubbles.
Love had never been a necessity for him. His relationships had always been based on mutual needs and he had never truly experienced such intense feelings.
As the curtain of night fell and the sun of the following morning rose, no matter what happened, she would be by his side. Just thinking about it made him happy.
In his more than thirty years of life, this was the night Marcellus slept the most soundly. He was usually a light sleeper with many dreams, but this time, he slept until dawn.
He didn't know if it was because he had someone in his heart, but he woke up early at six-thirty. The first thing he did upon waking was to go to the master bedroom opposite to check if she was still there.
Upon opening the door, he saw a small, white mound tucked under the covers in the middle of the huge bed. He approached the head of the bed and looked down at the girl who was curled up, her hair sprawled out.
She was sleeping peacefully, her mouth slightly open as she breathed softly. Her brow was relaxed, and given the commotion from the previous night, she was probably still in a deep sleep.
It was only six-thirty. He decided to let her sleep a bit more.
Marcellus didn't have the heart to wake her, nor did he want to be a pest. For the first time, he experienced the feeling of profound care for another person.
He was afraid that any movement he made might wake her and disrupt this rare serene dream.
