Clara wanted to refute. But through the corner of her eyes, she found that many people were hiding under the computer, secretly glancing at her with suspicion and even disdain.
Clara's heart missed a beat.
She couldn't be more familiar with this kind of look. Her classmates and teachers at the school looked at her with the same look two years ago when the thing she did was exposed.
Clara bit her lip, unable to say a word. She sat down, quickly sorted out the report, and then, under everyone's watching, she walked to Darren's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Darren's slightly weary voice sounded from inside the door. Clara pushed open the door and walked in.
Darren winced slightly seeing Clara. Clara quickly put the file on the table, "Mr. Kirkland, this is the document you want. If there is nothing else I can do, I'll go back to work."
With that, she turned and left, but before she reached the door, Darren called out.
"Clara, stop."
Clara reluctantly stopped but did not turn around. She asked in a cold voice, "Mr. Kirkland, is there anything else?"
"What is that attitude?" Darren's voice also grew colder. He got up and walked slowly toward Clara, "Are you avoiding me?"
"Yes," Clara admitted it.
Her frankness made Darren even angrier.
But looking at Clara's pale face after taking care of her mother these days, his tone involuntarily softened, "Clara, how is your mother?"
Although he didn't like Clara's mother, who was a mistress, he had seen Helena a few times when he was in love with Clara. After all, she was a senior, and he should express his concern.
Clara didn't expect Darren to ask this. To hide her surprise, she quickly replied, "It's all right, thank you, Mr. Kirkland.
Darren looked at Clara's stubborn look, hesitated, or said, "I heard that you need the money to pay the hospital. I sent you a text message, did you…"
"Mr. Kirkland." Before Darren could finish speaking, Clara interrupted, "If there's nothing else, I'll go back to work now." This time, before Darren answered, she walked straight out of the office.
In the corridor, she sighed. She didn't understand why Darren suddenly stopped humiliating her but starting to care about her mother.
But she found that whether Darren insulted her or was nice to her, she felt uncomfortable all the same. Maybe it was the best ending for them, who were once so in love with each other, to become strangers.
Thinking of this, she smiled bitterly and went to the office, planning to have lunch with Sarah.
Inside the office, Darren watched Clara leave, and frozen in place, motionless. He didn't even know what kind of attitude he had towards Clara now.
Clara was a bitch, he should hate her. Yet when he learned that she took the money because her mother Helena was sick, he had a feeling of guilt.
He had been with Clara for so long, and he knew how important Helena was to Clara.
So, he sent a text to Clara, asking if she need financial support.
Yet Clara didn't reply.
