Charlotte exclaimed in surprise. Before she could react, she found herself seated firmly at the dining table. Joe gazed into her eyes and softly said, "Your task now is to choose the breakfast you like."
Charlotte gave him a helpless look, realizing he had no intention of revealing the connection between her and Vincent. She refrained from pressing further.
However, her breakfast was destined to be anything but smooth.
As she picked up her spoon, Charlotte's phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from the police.
Charlotte initially thought they were calling to inquire about the drug she had taken yesterday. But before she could explain, the police officer's tone turned serious, "Miss Clinton, if it's convenient for you, please come to the police station."
Curious, Charlotte inquired about the matter, yet the officer claimed it was difficult to discuss over the phone and requested her to visit the police station when possible.
After some consideration, Charlotte agreed to go to the police station at ten o'clock.
Joe frowned, "I have a shareholder meeting later. Shall I arrange for Mandy to accompany you?"
Charlotte nodded slightly, relieved that Joe didn't suggest postponing the shareholder meeting to accompany her. "Don't worry, the police station is probably the safest place. Nothing will happen."
Joe's gaze held a hint of apology as he looked at her. "I'm sorry. I'll come to pick you up as soon as I can."
Though neither of them was usually sentimental, their words somehow conveyed a reluctant feeling.
After getting herself ready, Charlotte saw Mandy, who had come to pick her up.
