Charlotte suddenly remembered Lisa's ex-boyfriend and casually said, "Lisa had a boyfriend before. Perhaps he might know something."
Officer Carter nodded thoughtfully, "I'll follow up on that. Thank you for your cooperation."
Coming out of the police station, Charlotte saw Joe waiting for her outside.
The pale golden sunlight bathed him, casting a long, elongated shadow and giving him a faint golden hue.
Seeing Charlotte, Joe's lips curved as he approached, "Is it over?"
Charlotte nodded and told Joe about her conjecture. He furrowed his brows, not wanting any factors that could threaten Charlotte's safety to remain unchecked.
"I'll have someone keep an eye on Durke."
However, Charlotte remained relaxed; after all, the authorities were getting involved, and it should only be a matter of time before the culprit was apprehended.
With warm palms, Joe enveloped Charlotte and led her to the car.
He considerately opened the car door for her and leaned in closer. Charlotte thought he was going to kiss her and instinctively closed her eyes.
Joe's warm breath brushed against her cheek, and he gave a faint, gentle smile.
He pulled the seatbelt out from the side and carefully fastened it for her.
Charlotte, irritated and embarrassed, shot him an annoyed look.
He guided her into the car and fastened her seatbelt with care.
Charlotte's eyelashes trembled. Before she could say anything, Joe covered her eyes with his hand and then deeply kissed her lips.
