Charlotte subconsciously looked back and saw Sir Smith standing in the middle of the living room against the light, his expression drowned in endless darkness.
The grimness in Joe's eyes didn't fade away even after he got home.
Charlotte looked at him in confusion. "What's wrong? Why do you look strange when grandpa mentioned it?"
Joe pulled Charlotte into his arms and buried his head in her neck in silence.
He closed his eyes.
He seemed to be in that summer night again. The sharp sirens were roaring. He looked at the badly mutilated body, and there was only a strong, suffocating smell of blood in his nose.
He didn't tell anyone that he had a strong feeling of being abandoned at that time.
His parents left him alone in this world in an unexpected way, and he lived alone, bearing everything.
He hated them.
Therefore, Joe had never visited them all these years, and always avoided them.
He didn't want to think of that summer night, nor did he want to face such a tragic situation.
After listening to Joe's words carefully, Charlotte touched his head tenderly and said, "It doesn't matter. You have never been alone in this world. You used to have Grandpa and you will have us in the future."
She hugged him, and the two of them pressed their bodies tightly against each other, absorbing warmth from each other.
"I'll go with you to pay our respects to your parents."
Joe was stunned when he saw the flowers in her hand.
If it weren't for her, he might have forgotten that those were his mother's favorite flowers. Some old memories were slowly awakening in his mind.
Charlotte did not notice his mood swings. Instead, she smiled and took his hand. "Let's go."
For the first time, Joe didn't need to think or see anything, just followed her quietly, and followed her arrangements.
Charlotte drove him to the cemetery. In fact, it had been so long that Joe thought that he would forget where his parents' graves were. But as they approached from a distance, Joe had a strange feeling in his heart. He didn't even need to look to know which cemetery belonged to his parents.
Charlotte turned to look at him and led him to the tombstone.
