"I previously saw a psychologist for my memory loss, it must be the Smollett you are talking about," Martha answered confidently.
"I don't know what misunderstanding you have, but I really don't know Dr. Twain well," Martha said, her eyes red, "Maybe I haven't fulfilled my duties as a mother all these years, but I am your mother. How could I hurt you?"
With a poker face, Joe looked at Martha's impassioned plea, his face becoming increasingly darker.
Although he was certain that there must be some connection between Martha and Smollett, now was not the time to settle accounts with them.
Joe gave Martha a deep look, "I hope your actions are really as you say, Mom."
After confronting her, Joe left. When she was sure he was gone, Martha looked terrible.
She immediately called Hope, "He seems to be starting to suspect us."
Joe returned to Smith Manor, and Charlotte had not yet woken up. He felt her face for temperature, and everything was normal.
Concerned that something might happen to Charlotte at night, Joe thought for a moment and lay down next to her.
The person he had been thinking about day and night was finally sleeping beside him, yet Joe had no joy. He looked worriedly at Charlotte's side face, just hoping she would get better soon.
He thought the day would pass just like that, but in the middle of the night, Charlotte suddenly screamed and sat up in fear.
Her movement woke up Joe next to her. Joe looked at her with concern, "What's wrong..."
Before he could finish his question, Charlotte threw herself into his arms, trembling slightly.
Joe didn't know why, but he could feel her trembling and fear. He stroked her back gently, soothing her, "It's just a nightmare; it's all fake; don't be afraid."
