The slightly yellow walls were filled with fine cracks, and you never knew when they would peel off. The room, just a few square meters in size, was crammed with two beds made of wooden planks, along with a small table and two worn-out stools.
Charlotte originally thought that Ben and Anna would be disappointed when they saw the real state of the interior. Yet, to her surprise, Ben and Anna happily jumped on it at first sight.
"Wow! A bed made of wood! That's amazing!" Anna patted the stiff board with eyes full of surprise.
Charlotte didn't know how to react.
It was the first time she felt an insurmountable gap between herself and the children.
Seeing her shock, Joe chuckled and hugged her shoulder, "For them, this is indeed more rare than an amusement park."
They can go to an amusement park anytime, but a thatched cottage like this...
Chances are Ben and Anna will only stay here once in their lives.
Not only did Ben and Anna happily sit on the bed, but they also waved to Charlotte and Joe, signaling for them to join them.
Charlotte and Joe looked at each other helplessly and took their seats beside them.
The four of them sat face-to-face on the wooden bed, exchanging goofy smiles.
Charlotte suddenly understood a phrase she had once read: Home is where you are.
Even without a luxurious villa, as long as the four of them were sitting together happily, even this humble thatched cottage felt like home.
After simply packing up, Charlotte led Ben and Anna, who were obviously much more excited than before, to the open space in front of the thatched cottage.
They were the first family to finish tidying up, and Jerome rewarded each of them with an apple and asked them to wait there for a moment.
Charlotte and Joe took a bite of the apple and found it to be extraordinarily sweet, unlike any they had eaten before.
