Jack stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Mandy.
Five minutes later, they returned to Jack's home.
Mandy noticed some leftover sandwich scraps scattered on the table, indicating that he had hastily left after making them.
Seeing this scene, a bittersweet feeling welled up in Mandy's heart.
"I'm a mercenary."
Just as Jack wondered what Mandy was about to say, Mandy's words were like bombs.
Jack frowned.
"As a special assistant to the Smith Group, you should know what a mercenary is, right?" Mandy's tone revealed a bit of sarcasm. "In any case, I can't have a stable relationship with you..."
"So, the previous two times were because of your missions going awry?" Jack ignored her words and directly changed the topic.
Mandy was taken aback. She didn't expect his focus to be completely different from what she had imagined.
She nodded. "Yes, being a mercenary is a dangerous profession..."
Jack looked up and met her gaze, suddenly chuckled lightly, "If we can't have a stable relationship, we can have an intermittent one."
"What?" Mandy looked at him in astonishment. She understood every word he said, but it became perplexing to put together.
Jack repeated his words. His tone as casual as discussing the weather with Mandy.
"Anyway, I don't plan on finding another girlfriend. As long as you have time, come and meet me... I can also come to see you."
Mandy stood still in shock, even starting to doubt herself if she was too despicable.
Jack handed Mandy a cup of coffee. "It doesn't affect you in any way. I will do everything a boyfriend should do."
