Blake's spine tingled, her face a mix of ghostly pale and flushed red. All her embarrassment and anger reached a boiling point. She stood there, frozen for a few seconds, before stiffly picking up the apology letter from the floor, turning on her heel, and striding out.
As she turned, her eyes, filled with a subtle, venomous glare, brushed over Flora's face. This grudge, she would not forget. She couldn't go after Flora directly, but she sure could target others. Cynthia and Eilies, weren't they Flora's roommates? She'd start with them! Being an Associate Professor at the University of Maple Grove, it would only take a snap of her fingers to make sure they never graduated!
"Flora, there's something else I wanted to chat about," Mr. Richard said once Blake left. "In about two weeks, someone important from the medical center will be coming over for the handover."
Flora raised an eyebrow. "Someone important?"
"You might not know him. It's Mr. Kruiz. He was on the jury for the medical tournament," Mr. Richard explained. "He's got a lot of influence at the medical center. It would be wise to build a good rapport with him; it'll help with your placement there after the new year."
Mr. Richard's eyes lit up as he talked about Mr. Kruiz, clearly showing his admiration.
Flora thought, Oh, that old guy. I do know him.
"Mr. Kruiz is very serious and extremely rigorous in his academic work," Mr. Richard continued, clearly in awe. "I've only met him a few times myself, but he’s a scholar worthy of respect. I'd love to learn from him."
Flora wasn't sure if the man Mr. Richard was describing was the same one she knew. Serious? She couldn’t quite see it. But his passion and precision in academics were spot on.
Seeing Mr. Richard's genuine respect for Mr. Kruiz, Flora thought for a moment and said, "I have his contact info. Want it?"
Mr. Kruiz had practically begged her to add him, throwing a bit of a fit. He even added her to a scholars' group chat buzzing with academic chatter. She didn't usually join the conversation, but they tagged her every day.
"Huh?" Mr. Richard looked surprised, then chuckled and waved it off. "Flora, you must be kidding."
"Alright then." Flora stood up. "If there's nothing else, I'll head out."
"I'll walk with you," Mr. Richard said, rising too.
