Christian was on edge, worried Jillian would blurt out something reckless. In a moment of fury, he struck her leg with his cane. The pain nearly brought her to her knees, but he quickly dragged her away.
"Flora, just you wait. I won't let this slide!"
Even as Christian pulled her away, Jillian turned back to hurl threats at Flora. Her bloodshot eyes were filled with such insane hatred, it looked like she wanted to tear Flora apart.
The moment they left, the office fell silent. Everyone's expressions were a mix of shock and confusion, especially Mr. Richard and the counselor. It seemed Flora was confident, likely because she had some powerful support. Even Christian had to tuck his tail between his legs and apologize to her.
"Where's your boss?" Flora asked Moss and Beck.
Moss replied respectfully, "The boss is downstairs."
Noticing Flora's eagerness, Henrik softly added, "Flora, you go ahead and meet Connor. Dad and I need to talk to Mr. Richard."
Flora nodded and left the office. Stepping out of the building, she spotted Connor standing under a large oak tree across the street. He had his back to her, dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans, one hand casually in his pocket. Even from behind, he was tall and commanding, enough to make any girl swoon.
But his aura screamed "stay away," so she didn't dare approach, only took a few photos from a distance. Connor, wearing a face mask, was growing impatient. The constant ogling from the girls made him uncomfortable.
He'd put on the mask to avoid attention, but it wasn't working.
"Connor!"
"Okay."
Flora, arm in arm with Connor, made their way towards the school gate. After Jillian's dramatic scene, Flora had become quite the celebrity at the University of Maple Grove. Everyone knew who she was. Seeing her laughing and chatting with a man was surprising to many.
"Doesn't Flora have a fiancé? Is this guy a fling?" two girls whispered to each other.
They were freshmen who had gone through base training and knew Flora's fiancé was the base's chief instructor. The Connor they knew was always in military uniform, stern and authoritative. Now, in his fresh white shirt and jeans, with his hair naturally falling, he looked youthful and relaxed.
His mask only revealed his eyes, which were brimming with tenderness when he looked at Flora, making him almost unrecognizable as the strict chief instructor. They couldn't help but assume Flora was having an affair.
