……
Flora strolled into the lab right on time.
The place was eerily quiet today. Darcy, Shawn, and the others were all at their desks, but no one had started working yet.
"What's up?" Flora raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued.
Darcy grabbed her and nodded towards Dr. Ray's office.
From inside, they could hear Dr. Ray's muffled yelling mixed with the sound of a woman crying.
Darcy whispered, "Dr. Ray's giving Alexa a hard time, settling old scores."
"Oh."
Flora shrugged it off and headed to her seat.
She couldn't care less about Alexa.
Seeing Flora so indifferent, Darcy and the others felt maybe they were overreacting. Wasn't it totally normal for Dr. Ray to be grilling Alexa?
Soon, they all got back to work; if Dr. Ray came out and saw them slacking off, they'd get an earful too.
Inside Dr. Ray's office.
Alexa was a mess, tears streaming down her face as she begged, "Dr. Ray, whatever I did wrong, I can fix it. Just please, don't kick me out, okay?"
Getting kicked out of the lab would leave a permanent mark on her record.
What future would she have then?
Dr. Ray, clearly fed up with her crying, adjusted his glasses and said, "Alexa, I've told you clearly. You can't stay in this lab. The best thing for you is to submit a voluntary resignation."
Leaving on her own was way better than getting expelled.
"Dr. Ray, do you have to be this harsh?" Alexa's voice rose to a hysterical pitch, "What did I do wrong? Are you trying to ruin me? Are you all trying to ruin me? Is it because of Flora? Did she badmouth me to you? Is that why you're kicking me out?"
