From behind the frosted door, Flora could just make out the shadowy outline of a man. She squinted, trying to focus. While she waited for the matchmaking system to do its thing, she fired off a message to Kruz: “How much longer?”
Ethan shot back a quick response: “About... forty minutes, I think.”
Their momentum was pretty wild, and no one knew when it would really wrap up. With Flora in their corner, Ethan started to think they might just bulldoze their way up to a level nine team.
“Forty more minutes?” Flora thought, frowning as her eyes flicked toward the bathroom. She decided to get things moving quickly.
...
Just a minute later, the match was on. Their opponent? The level seven Hornet Squad, a bunch of big shots in the gaming world. They were caught off guard seeing Jules pop up in the match—never expected to bump into him here. But once the shock wore off, they were itching to dive in.
A chance to duke it out with Fuper F? That was a golden ticket. They had to bring their A-game. Except for Jules, they didn’t see anyone else as a real challenge. Their plan? Swarm Jules right off the bat, leaving a few to hold the fort.
They cooked up a battle plan and were raring to go once the game gave the green light. But then—
The screen.
Went gray.
The bold word “Defeat” flashed up.
Hornet Squad: “...”
Wait, what just happened? Did they actually lose?!
Over on the Zephyr Team’s side, the disbelief was mutual.
They won? Just like that? The game had barely started!
But this time, they saw it clearly. It was Flora’s handiwork. In less than thirty seconds, she’d wiped out all the opponent's defenses.
“How on earth did she pull that off?” Jules thought. This was so not Flora’s usual style. He’d been ready to be the sacrificial lamb.
