"I overheard Mr. Garcia saying that Flora might be up for an honorary professorship," someone whispered in disbelief. "Can you imagine? A freshman jumping straight to honorary professor. That's wild, but she's got the chops for it."

"You must've misheard," Blake said, frowning in doubt. "Flora, a freshman, getting considered for an honorary professorship? That's just ridiculous."

The idea was hard to swallow.

Blake had spent years grinding as an assistant professor, hoping to climb the ladder to a full professorship. The thought of Flora, who wasn't even twenty yet, being offered an honorary role was insane. Was it Mr. Richard who'd lost his marbles, or was it Blake herself?
