Claire looks cold with rage. Her words hit Leo’s heart deeply and pierce his bones, which makes him miserable.
Leo wants to say something, but he finds something stuck in his throat. He is speechless and miserable. He even has difficulty breathing.
Leo’s eyes are reddish. He says to Claire in agony, “but I forgive what your mother did to my family. You...”
He means I’ve let go of the hate and given you a chance. Why can’t you let go of hatred and give me a chance?
Hearing this, Claire is stunned for a moment, but then she thinks that they are two different things, and she sneers at Leo with cold face, “this is your fault! My mother’s grudge with your family is the matter of the previous generation. I don’t know what happened. Why don’t you let them go? You use it to negotiate with me now. You don’t deserve it!”
“...”
Leo steps back two steps in amazement. He looks at Claire in front of him as if he doesn’t know her.
Or he doesn’t really know Claire or care about her. So he doesn’t know Claire hates him that much. Does he really deserve it?
Is he going to give up?
It’s impossible!
He will never give up!
“No!” Leo looks up at Claire and says firmly, “Claire, no matter how much you hate me now, I won’t give up on you! Believe me. I’m willing to do my best to compensate you! It doesn’t matter if you don’t forgive me. I’ll wait! Even if you let me wait for a lifetime, I will wait until you are willing to forgive me!”
“Don’t pretend in front of me. I don’t believe it!” Claire turns. She doesn’t want to see Leo look remorseful and aggrieved.
Leo, why didn’t you think of this when you hurt me, killed my father and Bryce?
You’re pretending to be miserable in front of me now. When I was hurt by you, I was more painful than you!
Does it hurt? I just want to make you miserable. You deserve it!
...
They part unhappily. The next day, Leo still comes to see Claire at the hospital and he is more enthusiastic than before.
Now Claire is upset to see him. Didn’t they make it clear last night? Doesn’t he give up?
Leo wants to return the jade pendant to Claire today. She wants to ignore Leo, but when she sees this jade pendant, she is very sad.
It’s the heirloom her father left her and the only thing he left her. Now her father is dead, and she lives alone in the world.
As soon as Claire picks up the jade pendant in Leo’s hand, she can’t help crying, “Dad...”
Seeing Claire cry, Leo feels sad. He wants to hold her in his arms and comfort her, but he knows that Claire will not accept his touch now.

The readers' comments on the novel: Genius Son Sells his Mom to Dad
The storyline could have been better -- organization and cohesion of episodes could stand improvement, ending could have been more definitive resolving the many conflicts between the protagonists. Of course, the despicable treatment of Leo towards Claire initially, e.g., selling her off in an auction and giving her to the madam of the club as princess is inhuman and a violation to the wife's rights and honor. I was wondering why she did not leave after these maltreatments. Oh, well, the conclusion [if the narrative ends in Chapter 488] is quite disappointing and anti-climactic. Thank you just the same....
The end of the story is wanting, considering how the episodes build up to conflict after conflict and concluding in yet another conflict. But then c'est la vie! Thank you....
