Chapter 771 Waiting To Go to The Grocery
River didn't leave, but had a premonition and waited in the car.
Beata's call came in, and he wasn't surprised at all.
After answering Beata's call, River heard Beata excitedly say, "River, you haven't gone back yet, have you? Let's go to the grocery together, shall we?"
River lightly licked inside his cheek and said, "Why?"
"Just to go shopping. We haven't gone to a grocery store together before," Beata said.
As she spoke, she looked pitiful and very aggrieved.
Of course, this wasn't River's fault. Their family didn't really need them to go to any grocery stores.
Beata had gone a few times with her classmates and secretly bought some snacks that River wouldn't allow her to eat.
Of course, she couldn't let her brother know about this. Otherwise, she would face his scolding.
However, it wasn't unreasonable for her to act pitiful in front of her brother this way.
River sighed softly, feeling somewhat helpless with his sister.
She had learned these kinds of manipulative methods from whom? He really didn't know and it was so frustrating.
But what could he do?
He had spoiled her so much, and he would have to continue to do so.
River said, "Okay."
Beata immediately cheered up and expressed her gratitude to River with affection, saying, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
After hanging up the phone, Beata immediately approached Averi and said, "Averi, when shall we go?"
"Wait for me for ten minutes, okay?" Averi smiled.
Beata immediately nodded obediently, acting as meek as a lamb.
Averi quickly explained a few things to the staff on duty today and left with Beata.
Beata thought for a moment and hooked her arm around Averi's, saying, "Averi, let's ride in my brother's car together. You can leave your car here for now."
She began to plot again, hoping that her beloved brother could come and give Averi a ride to work tomorrow morning.
But Beata was just thinking about it and didn't know how to execute it yet, making her very distressed.
She had to think about it carefully later.
Averi had some suspicions, but not enough to be convinced.
She always thought that Beata wouldn't be so exaggerated.
However, what Averi didn't expect was that Beata would indeed be so exaggerated.
Suppressing her thoughts, Beata blinked her innocent eyes at Averi and said, "Averi, is it okay?"
"Sure thing. I'll follow your lead," Averi laughed.
She also wanted to confirm whether her thoughts were correct or not. Little did Beata know that Averi had already guessed what was going on in her mind.
Beaming with joy, Beata took hold of Averi's hand and headed towards River's car. She was in high spirits.
Once they got into the car, Beata immediately turned to River and said, "River, let's go."
Instead of starting the engine right away though, River asked Averi, "Miss Knight, which grocery store are we heading to?"
Before she could answer though, she heard a disgruntled voice from Beata, saying, "River! What's wrong with you? Averi has finished work for the day! Why are you still calling her Miss Knight?"
River remained silent while both Averi and he looked at Beata expectantly.
Finally he chuckled and said, "Then what should I call her ? Ave or just plain old Averi?"
Astonished by his suggestion and caught off guard by his teasing tone of voice when he called her "Ave", it took a moment for reality to sink in for poor Averi who couldn't believe what had just happened.
What on earth was happening to her? Why were these feelings spiraling out of control?
River too noticed how flustered she seemed, but instead chose not say anything about it as he kept an eye on her through the rearview mirror.
Beata hadn't noticed their exchange as she pondered over how best to respond.
She had already imagined and written a million-word sweet love story in her head. She felt that she had already found the male and female leads for her next book.
No, wait, this was wrong. How could she let her thoughts wander like this?
This wouldn't do.
Beata cleared her throat and said, "Of course it's Averi, River. What are you doing, acting all cute?"
River chuckled and lightly rolled his tongue, calling out, "Averi."
This sound seemed to have a hook in it, and it immediately caught Averi's attention.
She couldn't describe the feeling when she heard River call her "Averi" with a hint of laughter in his voice. It was like something had struck her heart.
Especially since River was looking at her through the rearview mirror while saying it, making the name even more ambiguous.
Averi didn't notice that her ears had turned red. River's gaze fell on Averi's reddened earlobes, and he licked his lips slightly with a hint of amusement in his eyes.
River thought to himself how cute she was at that moment.
Beata naturally noticed both of their expressions and felt like screaming with excitement inside.
Finally! She could feel the pink bubbles filling up the car - so sweet that they were about to burst!
But Beata knew better than to scream out loud.
After all, she didn't want her brother to kick her out of the car for being too noisy.
So instead, she decided to keep quiet and enjoy this moment as an obedient little sister who just happened to be ecstatic inside.
Finally, Averi cleared her throat and said, "There is a grocery store on Millberg Road. We can go there."
River thought for a moment before realizing where Averi meant. He started up the car without another word.
Beata looked at both River and Averi with a smile on her face - everything felt perfect!
She believed that today would be an important breakthrough between them all.
