Alyssa walked to Jared's bedroom, and the door was wide open.
A few young nannies were peeping inside.
Alyssa strolled over and asked, "What are you guys up to?"
One of the nannies replied, "That's Mr. Whitfield's kid right there. He's a beautiful kid, I've never seen a kid that handsome."
Others chimed in with agreement.
However, another nanny voiced her confusion, "But he sleeps so deeply. The butler just went in to bring him some fruit and he didn't wake up."
"He's been snoozing ever since he got back. Is he sick or something?"
Alyssa retorted, "Quit your yapping here and get back to your work."
The nannies dispersed from the doorway, only then did Alyssa walk in.
There was indeed a child lying on the bed.
Alyssa took one look and felt a lump in her throat.
She walked closer, step by step, like entering a tunnel of memories.
Standing by Summer's side, Alyssa felt like she was standing next to a four or five-year-old Jared.
Summer looked so much like Jared did at that age, it was almost uncanny.
Jared was her child, but he had only ever been able to call her 'sister'.
Tim was tough on Jared, so Jared grew up acting like a mature man.
Then everything went haywire, a rift grew between Jared and her.
Jared couldn't see himself as Alyssa's brother, but he also couldn't call Alyssa 'mom'.
Every time she saw Jared's evasive eyes, Alyssa's heart ached.
Often, Alyssa missed the days when Jared was still a kid.
Back then, when he messed up and got scolded, he'd take refuge in her arms.
