Heartstrings on Fire (Agnes and Jared) novel Chapter 732

Nocturne climbed out of bed and ventured out of his room.

At this very moment, Jared was in the kitchen flipping hash browns on the stove. As he turned around, he saw Nocturne standing in the doorway.

Jared paused for a moment before approaching him. In his hand, he held a small piece of hash brown, teasingly saying, "Call me 'Dad,' and this is all yours."

Nocturne just stared at Jared. The smile on Jared's face made it clear he was jesting.

Jared understood that the little guy was still hesitant and not ready to call him Dad.

"Dad!" Nocturne suddenly uttered, saying it calmly and naturally, as if he had said it countless times before. But Jared was taken aback. It was as if he had heard an illusion, "What did you call me? Say it again."

Obligingly, Nocturne repeated, "Dad." His tone was mature yet his voice maintained a childish lilt, befitting his tender age of four.

In that instant, Jared felt as if his heart was filled with mix emotions. Emotions welled up within him, threatening to overflow.

Jared felt an urge to cry, his tears on the brink of spilling.

Four years ago, when he first saw that positive pregnancy test, he had envisioned a moment like this. A son who looked just like him. He could teach him to play baseball, swim, and drop him off and pick him up from school.

For those four years, every second was agony. He dared not think of his child, yet he couldn't help himself.

Agnes cried too, out of remorse for the man she had wronged. In that moment, she truly understood the repression and longing Jared must have felt in the past four years.

How she had repeatedly destroyed his hopes, torturing him without a shred of mercy.

Jared stood there for a while, then he turned around, swept Nocturne into his arms, and asked, "Are you serious? Say it again."

With red-rimmed eyes, Jared looked at Nocturne, who was now smiling, "Dad, dad, dad, I can say it as many times as you want."

Jared seemed to be struggling to hold back, finally pulling Nocturne close to him, "Thank you, thank you so much."
