Agnes walked straight out from the parking lot and hailed a taxi. She seemed lost in thought during the ride but in reality, her mind was blank, void of any thoughts.
Her phone's vibration finally brought her back from her trance. It was a call from Jared. Agnes stared at the name on the screen for a few seconds before picking up.
"Where are you right now?" Jared's voice echoed from the other end.
"I'm back at the TV station. I need to work on the interview immediately and edit it tonight," Agnes responded, her voice not different from her usual tone.
Jared sounded a bit annoyed. "Didn't we decide to leave together? Why didn't you tell me before you left?"
Agnes paused for a while before saying, "I forgot."
There was silence on Jared's end. After a moment, he sighed. "I'll come to the TV station then."
"You don’t have to. I'll be working late. Maybe you should pick up Nocturne," Agnes suggested.
Jared was supposed to arrive within twenty minutes. However, an hour had passed, and he was still not there. Agnes started to feel a strange unease. Anger also started to seep in. If he didn't want to come, why did he insist on it earlier?
See, women can be so contradictory sometimes. Agnes thought she couldn't escape this magical law.
Finally, Jared showed up, holding a box of chocolate cake, Agnes' favorite. She had been craving them a few days ago but couldn't get them as they were always sold out within minutes. Agnes didn't have time to queue, but Jared had remembered her cravings and managed to get them for her.
