Carissa was stunned and in disbelief. "Take her back to the Quinton family? Why would you do that?"
Carissa wanted to say the child wasn't Malcolm's, but she couldn't lie. Marjorie had come here for a reason and must have known the truth by now. There was no point in deceiving her.
"Of course, I want to take her home to raise her," Marjorie replied, her voice tinged with sadness. "Sending such a small child to a convent? She wouldn't survive that harsh life."
Marjorie forced a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "Children are innocent. She can't choose her parents or her background. It's the adults who have made mistakes, and it's the adults who must bear the consequences."
Carissa felt a wave of sympathy and admiration for Marjorie. "Does Lord Malcolm know you're here? Does he know you're aware of this situation?"
Marjorie's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but she held them back. "He thinks he's deceived me. At first, I believed him too, but after some thought, the truth became clear. It wasn't hard to figure out, was it?"
"If you take her back, he might not appreciate it. Bringing her home means this secret won't stay hidden," said Carissa.
"I came prepared. If we want to keep this under wraps, we can simply say Willow gave birth to her. The people in our household already know the truth, and as long as we don't admit it publicly, no rumors will take root."
Carissa studied her. "Doesn't it bother you?"
Marjorie laughed bitterly. "I'm 48 this year. I've seen many things. He may have me as his first wife in his heart, but a man's heart can hold many women. I've never had him to myself. What difference does it make if there's one more or one less?"
Carissa raised an eyebrow. "You don't mean to bring that child's mother back, do you?"
Marjorie shook her head firmly. "No, at least, not for now. I can't convince myself of that yet. I just feel this child is innocent."
She sighed, another wave of sadness washing over her. Then, she turned to Carissa. "Your Grace, what would you do if you were in my position?"
Carissa fell silent, caught off guard by the question. She had never considered such a scenario, and it was difficult to put herself in Marjorie's shoes. She hadn't reached that level of complexity in her own life.

I wish there were more chapters uploaded daily. Atleast 10 per day....

I’ve read several novels, but this is the best of the best....
I hope that Rafael will not fall for Carmen. I don’t think I can keep reading if he does. Carissa deserves to have a pure and strong love with Rafael that world stand the test of time and all trials and tribulations....
