Jason lowered his eyes to hide his pain.
He gulped, trying to swallow the lump that was stuck in his throat.
Ever since he met Lora, he thought she was the one for him. He thought he could finally have someone by his side.
Jason had lived a lonely life abroad. He could count on one hand the number of times his mother went to see him as a child.
He was usually alone on his birthdays and had no one to celebrate special holidays with. It was like he was an orphan when both his parents were alive.
Whenever he asked his mother when he could come home, she always told him it wasn't the right time.
"Your father's other family won't be happy if you come now. Be good and stay where you are," she would say.
In the end, Jason grew up alone. He thought he was used to being alone until he met Lora and her children. She made him realise that he wanted a family of his own.
However, it seemed his dream to be with Lora would never come true. Seeing the way she stayed by Ryan's side despite his illness, only a woman deeply in love could stick to someone like that even though she knew that there was no future for them.
Lora's words still echoed in Jason's ears and each word sent a sharp pang of pain into his heart.
Was he doomed to be unlucky in love?
Looking at Lora, Jason forced a smile and said, "I guess this is a bad time to ask you to come to me. That was so insensitive of me. I'll wait for you, Lora. No matter how much it takes."
"Jaso-"
Jason turned and walked away before Lora could voice her response.
He didn't want to hear another rejection. It was clear to him that even if Ryan didn't exist, Lora wouldn't have fallen in love with him.
Still, Jason wasn't ready to give up just yet. Perhaps one day Lora would fall in love with him and accept him into her life again.
Meanwhile, Lora pursed her lips into a thin line as she watched Jason drive away. She let out a sigh, guilt creeping into her.
If only she hadn't tried to date Jason, he wouldn't be in denial. She only hoped he would meet a woman who loved him genuinely.
A little while later, Lora went home and found Ryan in their bedroom. He was in a white robe and his hair was wet, showing that he had just taken a shower.
His wet hair fell over his forehead, giving him a hot look.
Ryan flashed Lora a smile and sat down on the bed before patting the space beside him, saying, "Come here."
Lora blushed, wondering what Ryan was up to. Was he trying to get some in his condition?
Despite her thoughts, she followed Ryan and climbed on the bed, sleeping next to him.
