“Sir, your parents are back in the city,” Adan Nicholson’s assistant, Cheryl James, reported.
“That’s good,” Adan replied lazily. "Next time, you don't have to report that to me."
It was a few weeks after the new year and he had a lot of work to do. He was currently going through some new proposals and didn’t want to be bothered.
“Sir, they’ve reserved a restaurant and have demanded that you meet them for lunch,” Cheryl gingerly reported.
Adan frowned, pinching the bridge of his nose. He asked, “Where’s Reuben? He’s more competent than you. Why didn’t you tell them to call me and ask if I’m free?”
Cheryl clenched her hands into fists. Reuben was Adan’s other personal assistant but he was currently on a business trip. She didn’t like being compared to him since it could mean she could lose her job. Cheryl never wanted to be far away from Adan since she had a secret crush on him.
“They called you so many times but you didn’t answer their calls, sir,” Cheryl responded patiently.
Adan furrowed his eyebrows and checked his phone. Guilt crept into him when he saw the twenty missed calls from his mother and sighed.
“What restaurant?” He asked.
“It’s ocean basket, sir,” Cheryl replied.
Adan nodded and said, “Ok, I’ll be there.”
Cheryl turned to leave, feeling sad because Adan didn’t ask her to accompany him for lunch. He always took several women to meet his parents for lunch, why couldn’t he ask her to accompany him?
Meanwhile, Adan pinched the bridge of his nose. It wasn’t like he didn’t like seeing his parents, it’s just that he knew what they wanted to talk about.
Now that they heard that Ryan had another set of twins, they were going to put him under pressure to get married.
However, Adan had vowed never to get married in this lifetime. He knew his parents were just wasting their time, that’s why he took different models to meet them so that they stop pestering him.
However, for some reason, Adan hadn’t been spending time with different women lately. All of a sudden, he became bored of such a life which didn’t even give him any gratification.
Thus, he spent the last few months working harder than before, trying to occupy his mind and keep himself busy.
His phone chimed and he opened it to take a look at it. A smile crossed his lips when he saw a picture of two adorable babies with squishy cheeks.
The message was from Ryan, and it read,
[Hi, Uncle Adan, we are waiting for our present.]
Adan let out a chuckle. He pressed on the microphone and sent a voice note, saying, “Ryan, are you sure the babies want a gift or it’s you who wants a gift for being a father?”
Ryan sent back a voice note. “It’s both. Don’t be stingy and send the gift. I’m waiting.”
Adan laughed and looked out of the window, looking down at the city below. He had been the CEO of the Nicholson and Son’s group for a while now, however even after all this success, he still felt empty.
He sighed, sitting back in his swivel chair as he reflected on his life. Was he missing something?
He had no idea and he wasn’t interested in finding out. Feeling empty was better than being in emotional pain.
...
Lunch hour came quickly. Adan walked into the restaurant his parents had reserved and went to the VIP lounge.
