She wore white shoes, and over the dress, she had on a blue school jacket. The dress’s puffed sleeves peeked out from the jacket, tied with a bow, hiding the scars on her wrists. Her long hair was styled to cover the bruises on her forehead, and she had applied light makeup to conceal the lighter injuries on her face. Even her pale complexion now had a hint of color. No one would believe she had survived a life–and- death ordeal just the night before.
