Winnie was also prepared for that ending. After all, she was not optimistic about the relationship between her and Brian from the beginning.
She always felt that she was in love with Brian unilaterally, and always felt that she was not worthy of Brian. She had never been Felix's ideal granddaughter-in-law candidate. She had always been the second choice.
"Don't draw conclusions so early. Since you two have the deal, just wait for the results. Maybe he will settle everything in advance and come back to you."
Emily couldn't bear to see Winnie so negative. So she encouraged her and asked her not to care about it so much.
"Maybe. Anyway, I dare not have any hope."
The greater the hope was, the greater the disappointment was. Winnie could no longer bear the torture of disappointment.
"By the way, Winwin, my parents have returned from a trip. You can go to pick up the suitcase at any time."
Daenerys said whatever she thought of, regardless of Winnie being in that topic.
"Well... Then I will go to get it on the way home."
Winnie responded. Although she had been thinking about this suitcase, it was not so important. So she didn't care about it so much.
Everyone had dinner at Leo's home. Winnie and Daenerys were forced to drink a little by Emily. But fortunately, Winnie didn't drink too much, just feeling a little dizzy.
After drinking, Winnie didn't forget to go to Daenerys' parents' house to get her suitcase.
Brian's driver went upstairs to take the suitcase. After getting it, he went down and put it in the trunk of the car, then continued to drive home.
"That suitcase turns out to have Tom Cat on it. Is this the suitcase you talked about with Daenerys that day?"
Brian asked casually.
"Yes. It has been used for many years. I bought it when I studied in M country."
"There was an accident at home back then. I didn't have time to bring it back. Daenerys helped me get it back, so it has been in her house for so many years."
A casual question evoked Winnie's memory.
She liked the suitcase, but the memories of that time were indeed heartbreaking.
"You said we have to move on. Everything had gone."
"Is there anything important in your suitcase? Or you just like it, so you keep it till now?"
Brian comforted Winnie, and then talked about the suitcase again.
"There is nothing important in it. It’s just some clothes I wore at the time."
"You can just put it in my car after we get to the outskirts of the city. After I drive Vanessa school tomorrow morning, I’ll take it home."
Winnie had forgotten if there were any important things in it. After coming back her own villa, she could open it and had a look.
Brian didn’t say anything more. He asked the driver to put the suitcase in Winnie's car after returning home, so he missed the suitcase.
......
The relationship between them two was tepid. Rufus asked Winnie how they were going. She said Brian never forgot his mother for suicide. There was too much disagreement between her and him.
Rufus was already old. He really didn't want to see his son and daughter hate himself and another outsider for so long. This outsider was Isobel, Winnie's aunt.
Brian had always thought that it was because his father cheated on his mother, so his mother committed suicide. But that was not the case. Rufus really didn’t want to take the blame anymore. He also knew that if Brian found out that the woman was Winnie’s aunt, it would be another disaster. So it was better to tell them first.
After thinking for a few days, he finally called Stella, Brian and Winnie to the study.
"You mean Mom didn't jump off the building because of Isobel?"
Brian looked blank. Rufus said so clearly. But he still didn't understand.
For more than 20 years, he always thought that his mother died because of Isobel. But suddenly, others told him that it wasn’t the truth. He had regarded hatred as a habit for more than 20 years. How could he give up the habit so suddenly?
