Amara froze for a moment. Feeling Tobias’s lip on hers, she wasn’t sure how to react for the briefest second.
Why the hell would he kiss her? And in such an exposed environment, did he not care about his image?
Thoughts of such ran through her mind, temporarily dulling out whatever reaction her mind was packing.
Behind them, people who had been watching them dance together, cheered on Tobias’s action, thinking he was some suitor who finally got his chance at winning the heart of the one he was courting.
The sound was enough to wake Amara up and With lightening speed, she shoved him away and slapped him hard across the cheek.
The sound of her palm hitting his cheek reverberated through the room, causing all the heads to turn towards them.
Just as quickly as the room had erupted in cheers, it became quite. Tobias looked stunned and his cheek stung, but the anger in Amara’s gaze was enough to distract him from the pain.
“You…” She was about to curse at him when the gaze of Gemini and other attendants of the party became far too obvious.
They were watching her, gauging her next moves and seeing how she’d handle such a situation that she landed herself in and Amara knew the best reaction wouldn’t be getting angry.
Gritting her teeth, she threw Tobias one final nasty glare, before turning around and storming off.
The sound of her heels clicking against the marble floors of the building echoed and a sense of despondency fell upon Tobias as he watched her back disappear into the crowd.
What was wrong with this week, he thought. No, it wasn’t this week, even since way before this week there have been a malfunction in the way he thought about Amara. It all started from the moment she moved out. He noticed her absence and missed her presence far more than he wanted to.
Then, the night they spent together was almost as if the universe was rubbing what he had lost straight in his face. Not only did he see a part of Amara that surprised him in a delectable way, but he also learned that he harbored desires for her, that were hard for him to control…
Especially when maggots such as the men in this room kept looking at her like she was a freaking piece of meat.
“Tobias?” Gemini’s voice broke through his thoughts and he turned to face the older lady.
“Madam Sinclair,”
“That slap looked pretty harsh.” Gemini commented.
“It was,” Tobias replied with a bitter smile. “But it’s deserved.”
Gemini chuckled and smiled. “I’m not sure what the situation between you two is, but if it’s serious, then I think it’d be best if you both tried sorting it out. After all, you’d both be working together in the future.”
The smile on Tobias's lips faltered. “Yes,”
“Don’t worry, whatever you did, I’m sure Ms. Miller isn’t someone who holds grudges. It’d be alright.”
Tobias couldn’t bring himself to respond to this, because even though he knew that part of what Gemini had said was right, he also knew that Amara was a woman who did not forgive and forget.
~•~
That freaking idiot, Amara cursed in her mind as she stormed back to the parking lot, pissed.
She was trying to keep calm in the face of the situation, but it was proving to be very difficult seeing how much Tobias’s stupidity was annoying her.
What was he thinking kissing her in front of everyone? In fact, what was he even thinking kissing her, what the hell?!
