Chapter 654: We Should All Live a Good Life!
Ivan glanced at the menu that had been handed to them. "Are you sure you don't want to take a look?" he asked.
Darin waved his hand dismissively. "Just order whatever, I'm not really in the mood for food these days."
"Okay then." Ivan handed the menu back to the waiter. "We'll just go with these for now."
"Sure thing," said the waiter before leaving their table.
Ivan turned to Darin with a curious expression on his face. "What could possibly be affecting your appetite?"
Darin looked at Ivan's face and hesitated before speaking, clearly wanting to say something but holding back.
Suddenly, Ivan seemed to understand what was going on. "Ah, I see," he said without pressing further.
Instead of dwelling on Darin's issue, Ivan shifted their conversation towards why Darin had come all the way to Manches City in the first place.
"You came here specifically for Yanis?" he asked Darin.
Darin gave him a disapproving look. "Be more precise with your words please - Yanis isn't 'your' family anymore; Mila is."
Ivan shrugged it off. "Yanis - did I say something wrong?"
Yanis shook her head in response while Darin chuckled lightly and said, "'Never mind what I just asked.'"
Afterwards, Darin turned his attention towards Yanis again and explained why he had come all this way: it was about an opportunity they had discussed previously that would require someone as capable as Yanis by their side - someone who could innovate and meet certain standards of quality workmanship.
This topic wasn't new; Ivan had already briefed her about it earlier so when she heard what Darin was saying she replied without hesitation: "There's no need for me think twice about this matter since we've already agreed upon it beforehand."
Darin didn't expect things would go so smoothly but instead of getting too excited too soon he remained serious and asked Yanis another question: "Don't you think you should ask Mr Lawrence's opinion first?"
Hearing this suggestion from him made Yanis speak up softly: "It's okay if I make my own decision regarding this matter; once everything is settled down here then I'll inform Mr Lawrence."Darin nodded, "That's good. I can stay in Manches City for a few more days this time. We can talk about the details then, okay?"
Yanis replied, "No problem."
While Darin chatted with Yanis, Ivan didn't say much. After the two finished talking, Ivan looked at Yanis and asked, "So does that mean I'm out of a job as your temporary partner?"
Upon hearing Ivan's question, Yanis turned to him and said firmly, "Nope."
"Nope?" Ivan repeated.
"Some of the goods are still coming from your side," Yanis explained. "Mr. Walsh and I won't put them in our store." After all, their customers were used to seeing those products there; if they priced them too high or took them away altogether it would be bad for business.
Although these items were considered luxury goods with high price tags attached to them – which meant not everyone could afford them – there was still an estimated market for such products.
Ivan listened to what Yanis had said and thought it made sense.
The three of them continued eating while discussing various details related to their business partnership until everything was settled over dinner.
Afterwards Darin left first because he had another appointment elsewhere while Ivan stayed behind with Yanis.
"I'll ride back with you later," Ivan said casually as they stood outside Banyan Garden's entrance gate together. "Zane won't get jealous will he?"
Yanis chuckled lightly before replying: "He shouldn't."
Ivan laughed too before continuing: "By the way did you hear that Bonnie is going to get engaged with Myles by the end of this month?"
Yanis nodded her head in agreement: "It's been ordered by her family so she couldn't refuse even if she wanted."
"It's about time though," added Ivan smilingly," They've been together for over twenty years now."
"Before Aunt Isabel passed away," recalled Yanis sympathetically," Bonnie kept pushing Myles away but couldn't bear losing him either... Now that things have changed though they should be able to enjoy life together properly."
Hearing what she had just said caused Ivan's eyes flicker towards hers briefly as he replied jokingly: "Well my dear friend here knows how to live life properly already."
Laughing softly at his comment, Yaniss agreed wholeheartedly saying:"Yes we both should start living our lives better now."
After all those tumultuous times they'd gone through recently, it was definitely time for some peace and quietness in their lives again... When Zane and Finnley came out, they saw Yanis and Ivan standing side by side, chatting and laughing about something.
Finnley noticed the situation and glanced at Zane's face. "Isn't that... your sister-in-law?"
Finnley had sharp eyesight. After hearing that Zane had made up with Yanis, he started calling her sister-in-law.
Zane looked at him when he heard this. "Do you think I can't recognize my own wife?"
Finnley replied awkwardly, "No, I just... forget it. I'll go find out who's raising the price first and contact you later."
Zane nodded in agreement. "Since the other party can hide their identity so well, they must be someone from Manches City. Be careful."
Finnley responded confidently,"Don't worry about me; I won't show up in person."
Because Finnley was still thinking about West City's affairs, he didn't approach Yanis to say hello before leaving after a brief chat with Zane.
After Finnely left, Zane walked towards Ivan and Yanis who were standing together.
Ivan was the first to notice Zane approaching them."Mr. Lawrence is here,"he whispered to Yanis.
Yanis turned around upon hearing his voice, and spoke only when Zanewas close enough."Is it over?"
Zanenodded, held Yani's hand naturally, and then looked at Ivan."Mr. Baxter is really carefree today."
Ivan smiled slightly upon hearing this remark on purpose,"Even if busy, I have to make time for dinner with Yanis."
When Zanesaw this, hiseyes narrowed slightly. Ivan pretended not to notice his expression changeand continued speaking,"My time is always available forYanisto use."
Before Zenecould get angry, Yanisspoke quickly,"Uh, Ivan, could you drive my car back? I'll see you another day..."
"Albi, you drive Mr. Baxter back home please?"Zenecut off Yani's words before she could finish speaking.
Ivan held back a smileand looked seriouslyat Albi who was standing beside him:"Thankyou very much Albi."
