Chapter 662: Don't Mention Anika's Side
Myles nodded. "Okay, I'll take it. Thank you."
"Iris!"
Someone called out Iris's name.
Iris turned to look in the direction of the voice and then back at Myles. "I'm going to go over there for a bit."
Myles said, "You go ahead. I'll have them help clean up here, and we can split the compensation money with them later."
"Okay."
Myles checked the time on his watch and said, "I have to go now. Bonnie and I are meeting Anika for lunch."
Iris responded with an acknowledgement but then added, "Don't mention anything about what happened here to Anika."
Myles nodded in agreement before leaving.
As Iris watched him walk away, she turned around and approached Mr. Morris who had just arrived panting heavily from running over.
"What were you doing? You're all sweaty," she asked him.
"I was looking for people just in case things got physical so that we wouldn't lose our momentum," he replied while pointing behind him at a group of men who looked like they could handle themselves physically.
For a moment Iris didn't know what to say that would be appropriate given how absurd Mr. Morris' response was.
He scanned his surroundings before asking her where everyone else was: "Hey! Where is everybody?"
"Let's just disperse everyone now since everything has been resolved," suggested Iris as calmly as possible given how ridiculous this whole situation felt by now.
Mr. Morris hesitated briefly upon hearing her suggestion but eventually agreed: "Alright then wait here while I send them home."
While Mr. Morris went off to speak with others involved in this incident, Iris took advantage of this opportunity by apologizing profusely towards several shop owners whose stores had been damaged during this altercation:
"I'm sorry about what happened earlier today; it's my fault entirely. I will make sure that any losses incurred will be compensated fully."
"Iris dearie," one shop owner remarked incredulously after hearing her apology."Those people aren't exactly good folks; why did you get yourself involved with them?"
Most of these Antique City store owners knew Iris quite well since she'd helped many of them out previously which is why no one really held any grudges against her despite what had occurred today.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed by their questions, Iris struggled momentarily before offering up an explanation: "I know who they are; I'll be more careful next time around. I'm truly sorry about everything that's happened today.""It's alright, it's alright. You should also be careful," Myles' people were quick to help tidy up the store.
Looking at the empty shop after it had been tidied, Iris furrowed her brows slightly.
He didn't expect the Johnson family to resort to such means to solve this matter.
Originally, Iris was considering that things were almost resolved and even giving Old Mr. Duncan face would suffice.
But now it seemed that there was no need for him to be soft-hearted at all.
Perhaps because Myles spoke so bluntly, Anthony had someone send money directly over while Iris was still in Antique City.
Iris accepted without hesitation and then added some extra compensation according to the losses suffered by those three stores' owners themselves.
"Mr. Duncan, all of the money has been distributed among the three store owners," Jefferson acted quickly as usual.
Iris nodded upon hearing this. "I know. You can go back first."
Jefferson looked towards Iris and asked: "Should I leave you with my car?"
Iris waved her hand dismissively: "No need. You can go back first; if anything comes up later tonight I'll give you a call."
Jefferson bowed respectfully before leaving: "Alright."
After Jefferson left, Mr. Morris sitting next to her finally turned his gaze towards Iris: "How much did you compensate them?"
According to Jefferson's initial budget estimate of around nine million dollars or so but given today's situation which had hindered many things from proceeding smoothly anyway, she chose instead gave some subsidies directly into each of those three shops - a gesture of apology on behalf of herself too perhaps?
"Not much," replied Iris vaguely without going into details about how much exactly she compensated them with.
Mr. Morris sighed deeply:"Actually, you don't have any obligation or responsibility whatsoever in compensating them; they wouldn't say anything either way."
Shaking her head, Iris said:"Still, it is necessary for me give something as compensation; otherwise, it won't seem right."
Having known each other for such a long time, Morris knew well enough about what kind of person iris is like. He didn't say anything more when he heard what she said but only nodded gently:"Yes, this way nobody will feel cold-hearted."
"Thank you for your hard work today too,"said iris appreciatively.
Morris waved his hand casually:"We've known each other for so long already that saying thank-you seems unnecessary between us."After saying this, Mr. Morris looked at Iris and said, "Speaking of which, that little girl looked pretty badly injured when we saw her earlier. Are you going to the hospital later? I'll go with you to check on her. After all, she's helped me a lot during this time we've known each other."
Iris nodded in agreement and said, "Sure, let's go together."
Mr. Morris checked the time on his watch and said, "Let me just tidy up a bit first. We can head over there now."
"Okay," Iris replied.
...
In the end, Anika couldn't keep her injury a secret from old Mr. Lawrence and old Mrs. Lawrence.
After all, the Johnson family had made quite a scene about it so it eventually got out.
When old Mrs. Lawrence and old Mr. Lawrence came to see Anika lying in bed at the hospital they were heartbroken.
Old Mr. Lawrence repeatedly told Zane that they couldn't just let this matter slide by unnoticed.
Zane responded confidently with,"I will handle it well."
When Iris arrived at the hospital, the elderly couple was just leaving.
She greeted them respectfully at the door saying,"Hello Old Mr. Lawrence, and Old Mrs. Lawrence".
Because she was Old Mr. Duncan's grandson, Iris was acquainted with both of them already especially after what happened between Yanis before. They didn't say anything about Iris though, in fact they even comforted her before leaving.
"Are you feeling better?" whispered Iris as she approached Anika's bedside.
Anika replied softly,"Yes, I'm much better now."
After speaking, she smiled towards Morris who followed behind Iris then turned back to him saying,"Hi, Morris!"
Morris chuckled then replied ,"Seeing how lively you are, it makes us feel relieved."
Anika spoke again ,"There is nothing serious. I will be discharged soon. Will you consider letting me help manage your store?"
Morris agreed immediately , saying ,"If you're discharged today, you can come help manage my main store today too."
"You promised! Witnessed by Iris here!" exclaimed Anika playfully.
Iris glanced over at Morris' face then added ,"And I recorded it too!"
Morris laughed out loud before replying sarcastically , "Am I someone who doesn't keep their word?"Zane saw that Anika, Iris, and Mr. Morris were having a good conversation, so he didn't want to interrupt them. He left the hospital room with Yanis.
"You're going to the company now?" Yanis asked softly as they walked side by side.
Zane reached out and naturally took Yanis's hand. "I'm going to West City with Finnley this afternoon for a land auction. We'll go take a look."
Yanis nodded. "Is Albi waiting for you downstairs or are you driving yourself?"
"Finnley is coming to pick me up, we'll go together," Zane replied after checking the time on his watch.
Yanis acknowledged him and escorted him to the hospital entrance before watching him get into Finnley's car and drive away. Then she turned around and went back inside the hospital.
