Chapter 671: I think the chances are slim.
When Old Mr. Duncan turned to head towards the room, Chamberlain Tony quickly went back to his own room to change clothes and get ready to go out with him.
After Old Mr. Duncan changed his clothes, Yanis helped him out of the door.
When Albi saw them come out, he got off the car and opened the door for Old Mr. Duncan and Yanis.
On their way to the hospital, Yanis briefly told Old Mr. Duncan about what had happened.
Old Mr. Duncan didn't say much after listening to Yanis' words; he just sat quietly in his seat for a while.
After some time passed, Old Mr. Duncan took out his phone and made a call.
It took a long time before someone finally answered on the other end of the line.
"No matter how busy you are right now, come back immediately or don't bother coming back to The Duncan family again!" said Old Mr. Duncan without giving them a chance to respond before hanging up abruptly.
Yanis wanted to comfort him but decided against it as he wasn't very familiar with The Duncan family's situation himself - he only knew them through Iris' father's acquaintance with him over many years ago thanks in part due Iris herself introducing them later on down that road together as friends themselves..
There were various rumors about Iris' parents: some said they divorced after she was born and started new families elsewhere outside of Manchester City; others claimed that they left The Ducan family altogether when she was young in order pursue their own dreams outside of Manchester City altogether..
The truth remained unclear though as neither her father nor Iris ever mentioned anything about it directly themselves..
They arrived at the hospital soon enough where Albi got off from driving duties so that he could help open doors for both Yanis & old man duncan who seemed unsteady upon exiting vehicle..
Despite saying "I'm fine" repeatedly under his breath while trying not show any signs of weakness whatsoever given how much importance this girl held within heart - there was still an evident tremble present within old man duncan's voice which betrayed just how worried & concerned he truly felt deep down inside.. As Yanis entered the hospital lobby, she was about to approach the information desk when she saw Myles coming out of the elevator, talking on his phone.
"Myles!" Yanis called out.
Myles glanced over at Yanis upon hearing her voice. "Hold on a sec, they're here," he said into his phone.
"Okay," Bonnie's voice came through from the other end of the line.
Myles hung up and walked towards Yanis. He greeted Old Mr. Duncan first. "Hey there, Old Mr. Duncan."
Old Mr. Duncan nodded in response. "Thanks for your help."
"No problem, let me take you upstairs." Myles turned around and led Old Mr. Duncan and Yanis into the elevator.
When they arrived at the intensive care unit on the upper floor, a doctor was just looking for Iris' family members.
"Is anyone here related to Iris?" The doctor asked as they approached him.
"That's us," Myles replied immediately.
The doctor turned towards them upon hearing their voices and looked surprised by how many people were with them now. "Who is Iris' family member?"
"I am," Old Mr. Duncan stepped forward and said calmly while pointing to himself as he spoke."I'm her grandfather."
The doctor seemed taken aback by this answer."What about her parents? Aren't they here?"
"They're on their way back," Old Mr. Duncan explained briefly before turning to look at Yanis who had grown anxious after hearing this exchange between them all."How is Iris doing?" She asked directly without beating around bush anymore
"The situation isn't ideal right now," The doctor replied gravely."The knife wound went deep enough that it damaged some of her intestines along with other soft tissues inside."
After giving a brief summary of Iris' condition to Old Mr. Duncan, the latter's expression became more serious than before which made everyone else worried too. Yanis couldn't help but glance anxiously at him but he didn't seem affected by what he heard or saw in any way whatsoever. Meanwhile, Myles sat down on one of chairs nearby while sharing how they found Iris earlier that day with only one person present in an abandoned construction site where demolition work had been halted halfway through its completion process so no one else was around except for her alone when their team arrived there . Myles paused for a moment before continuing, "There's no surveillance over there, so... you know what I mean, right?"
Yanis naturally understood. "I know."
Myles nodded and fell silent for a few seconds before saying again, "The injuries are pretty severe and... I don't think there's much hope."
Myles had been injured himself before and all of his men had scars on their bodies. The severity of the situation was almost immediately apparent.
Although Iris had been successfully operated on and moved to the ICU temporarily, her chances were still slim.
When Iris was brought in earlier, she was practically at death's door.
At that time, Myles thought that Iris might not even make it onto the operating table.
But she managed to pull through unexpectedly.
After listening to Myles' words, Yanis remained silent for a while without speaking.
Old Mr. Duncan took quite some time inside the room when he went in.
It wasn't until nearly twenty minutes later that he emerged from inside.
When Old Mr. Duncan came out, Yanis stood up first thing to greet him,"Old Mr. Duncan."
Old Mr. Duncan glanced at Yanis' face upon hearing his voice then walked over to sit quietly on a nearby chair.
Yanis tried several times to speak but couldn't get any words out of his mouth.
The group sat quietly like this until dawn broke and doctors rushed Iris back into surgery once again.
Yanis' heart hung heavy with worry throughout this entire ordeal as every second ticked by slowly but surely.
It wasn't until five or six hours later that Iris finally made it back into intensive care after flatlining once during surgery.
Old Mr. Duncan nearly fainted from shock while Yanis stayed by his side watching everything unfold. Zane came by around noon as Anika suffered another episode earlier in the morning requiring two doses of sedatives; she still hadn't woken up yet with Dr. Wood keeping watch over her condition elsewhere in the hospital ward .
"Old Mr. Duncan," Zane greeted him first thing upon seeing him enter the room .
Upon hearing Zane's voice , Old Mr. Duncan nodded towards him ,"Is that little girl alright?"
Zane replied promptly ,"She'll be fine."
"That's good then," Old Mr. Duncan responded before falling silent again .
Iris would need some time yet before completely recovering from this dangerous situation . After staying up all night, Yanis finally convinced Old Mr. Duncan to go back and rest with Chamberlain Tony around noon. Old Mr. Duncan didn't insist on staying at the hospital and agreed to go back with Chamberlain Tony.
Yanis stayed behind at the hospital, waiting for news about Iris. Zane kept Yanis company for a while before leaving to see Anika after Bonnie and Ivan arrived.
"Things aren't looking good?" Ivan asked quietly, looking towards the direction of the intensive care unit after Zane left.
Yanis nodded. "Her heart stopped this morning and she almost didn't make it."
