I Become A CEO After Divorce novel Chapter 672

Chapter 672: Yanis, to be honest, do you believe him?

Bonnie sighed silently and reached out to hold Yanis' hand. "And what about Anika? How is she doing?"
Yanis shook his head. "The situation is not good, it's worse than before. She might have seen something."
Anika was probably traumatized, which caused her to relapse after finally recovering.
"Have the Johnsons been found yet?" Ivan asked Yanis.
Yanis shook his head again. "We don't know yet."
Bonnie furrowed her brow. "Did you call the police?"
Yanis nodded in response. "Myles called them and they've taken the case."
Bonnie hadn't expected Anna to be so ruthless when she got serious about something.
She thought that Anna liked Iris enough to show some mercy, but she never imagined that Anna would go this far.
Two people hurriedly arrived in the afternoon.
Yanis didn't recognize them.
"You're Yanis, right?" The woman greeted Yanis first.
Yanis nodded slightly and asked, "May I ask who you are?"
The woman smiled apologetically at Yanis and said, "I'm Iris' mother."
When Yanis heard this, he was a little shocked.
The woman in front of him looked no more than thirty years old; there was no way he could tell that she was Iris' mother just by looking at her appearance alone.
But after a few seconds of being stunned by this revelation, Yanis regained his composure and said politely: "Hello Auntie."
Then he introduced Ivan and Bonnie to Rachael Duncan respectively.
After everyone exchanged greetings with each other they discussed Iris' condition together.
For some reason though, Yanishadn't seen any worry on Rachael's face even thoughher son's life hunginthe balance. There seemedto be very little emotional fluctuation from her side.
It wasthe middle-aged man standing silently beside them who had an expression of concern on his face instead.
At first, Yanishadn't paid much attention, but nowhe noticedthatthe man did bear a resemblance toIrisin someway or another.
"If you have anything else going on, you can leave first. I'll explain everythingto my father," Morgan Duncan whispered softly as he looked towards Rachael.
Rachael glanced at Morgan's face when she heard him speak, and replied firmly:"My son is still inside. Nothing else matters more than him."
Upon hearing these words, Morgan remained silent without saying anything furtherAfter a few moments of silence, Rachael turned to Yanis and the others. "Yanis, you guys can head back now. We'll stay here with Iris. You've all been working hard these past few days."
Yanis hesitated for a moment after hearing Rachael's words before nodding in agreement. "Okay, we'll head back then."
Although Yanis wanted to stay behind, he knew that Iris' parents were there and it was best for them to have some privacy with their daughter during this difficult time. So Yanis, Ivan and Bonnie bid their farewells before leaving the hospital.
As soon as they stepped into the elevator, Bonnie couldn't help but speak up. "I didn't see any connection between them and Iris at all."
She paused for a moment before continuing on. "Although Uncle Duncan did look like he could be related to her in some way... but other than that I didn't see anything else connecting them to her."
"I heard that Iris' parents divorced a long time ago," Ivan chimed in. "They probably came back because of how serious her condition is."
Upon hearing Ivan's words, Yanis furrowed his brow slightly but said nothing.
"Ah... poor Iris," Bonnie sighed.
The three of them left the hospital together when they reached the ground floor.
"Where are you headed? To Anika's or somewhere else?" Bonnie asked Yanis as they walked towards their cars.
Yanis hesitated for a few seconds before turning towards Bonnie and asking if she had driven over or if she had hitched a ride with Ivan.
"I hitched a ride," she replied casually.
"In that case... why don't you come with me? If Ivan has something important to do then he can go ahead without us." Yanis suggested kindly.
Ivan nodded his agreement before adding: "Yeah I actually have something I need to take care of anyways so I'll leave first?"
Bonnie waved goodbye as Ivan left while she followed behind Yanis towards his car instead of hers which was parked nearby
"You seem preoccupied about something," she observed once they were both seated inside his car
It wasn't really phrased as question but more like an observation
Yanish didn't deny it outright either though; instead he simply said: "Let me explain on our way there"
After organizing his thoughts briefly he began recounting what happened yesterday while driving out of the parking lotAfter listening to Yanis, Bonnie didn't immediately scold Zane like she did before. Instead, she remained silent for a moment before asking Yanis, "Did he tell you he didn't touch them?"
Yanis nodded.
Bonnie looked at her and asked, "Yanis, honestly speaking, do you believe him?"
Without hesitation, Yanis replied, "Yes."
Bonnie nodded and said, "If you believe him then that's good. Why are you still holding onto this?"
In the past Bonnie wouldn't have believed Zane but after witnessing everything between Yanis and Zane she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Yanis walked over to the car and opened the door for Bonnie to get in first.
Without hesitation Bonnie got in and asked Yanis,"So what are your thoughts now?"
Instead of answering right away, Yaniss closed the car door first before sitting down on the driver's seat. She then said,"I don't really have any thoughts."
Bonnie looked at her skeptically,"You don't seem like someone who doesn't have any thoughts about this. Do you still have some doubts in your mind?".
Starting up her car, Yaniss replied,"It's impossible not to think about it at all but I choose to believe him."
After a few seconds of silence, Bonnie spoke again,"No one saw anything or can prove anything so whether or not you choose to believe Zane is entirely up to you. If you think he's trustworthy and didn't do it then don't let these unnecessary thoughts bother your mind. If it makes things easier for yourself just let it go."
After all, some things hidden deep inside our hearts will slowly turn into an obsession which could eventually lead us into making bad decisions. Yaniss leaned back against her seat silently for a while before taking a deep breath,"Let's just head back to work." These past few days had been exhausting with various trivial matters constantly occupying her mind.
"Shall I drive instead?", offered Bonnie.
"No need, I'll drive", replied Yaniss as she fastened her seat belt.
"Don't overthink things too much because once those negative thoughts take root they'll be hard shake off.", warned Bonnie.
"I know. I just want some time alone.", said Yannis quietly.
Deciding not say anything more, Bonnie kept quiet as they drove back towards their workplace. Because sometimes, no matter what you say or do, it's just not enough. You have to learn to let go and move on in your own heart.
