Adam took a drag of his cigarette, squinting his eyes slightly. In a calm voice, he said, "If I had intervened back then, it would have made their situation even more difficult."
"And now there's an opportunity?" Kellan asked.
Adam chuckled. "You seem quite interested in my affairs. Are you here for the spectacle or to show concern?"
Kellan flicked the ashes off his cigarette and replied honestly, "Both."
"Oh?" Adam raised an eyebrow.
"I want to witness the spectacle, but as a business partner, I also worry. After all, we just started this collaboration, and if Zane messes things up for you, where will I find another compatible partner?" Kellan didn't hide his thoughts from Adam.
Adam laughed. "What about you and Zane? I haven't heard about any unresolved conflicts between you two."
Kellan squinted slightly when he heard Adam's question. "There are no unresolved conflicts. I just don't like him."
Adam chuckled at that.
Curious about Adam's laughter, Kellan asked, "What's so funny?"
"Nothing," Adam replied softly, finishing his cigarette in silence. Then he looked at Kellan and said, "Zane has complete control over the Lawrence Group now. He has his hands in most industries in Manches City. It won't be easy to take him down."
Kellan spoke calmly, "Everyone has weaknesses. Once you find and exploit those weaknesses, there's always a way to bring them down."
"Are you implying that you've found his weakness?" Adam looked at Kellan.
Meeting Adam's gaze, Kellan replied, "Don't tell me you haven't found his weakness?"
Adam burst into laughter. "I have. I just encountered his weakness tonight, and it turned out to be quite interesting."
Kellan finished his last drag of the cigarette, extinguishing it in the ashtray on the table. "Women can succeed or fail," he said. Then he chuckled self-deprecatingly, "They say a gentleman doesn't touch a woman, but I've never been much of a gentleman."
Adam glanced at him. "Funny, I'm not one either."
The two exchanged a smile, understanding each other without saying a word.
At least they shared the same goal.
...
After ending the call with Adam, Zane immediately called Albi and instructed him to take Yanis' car somewhere else for repairs.
Once he finished giving instructions to Albi, Zane headed upstairs.
When Zane went up, Yanis hadn't come out of the bathroom yet.
Just as Zane was about to knock on the door, his phone rang again.
Seeing the caller ID, Zane furrowed his brow slightly and turned around, stepping out of the bedroom to answer the call. "Lawyer Lane."
"Sorry for calling you so late," Lane's voice came through with a hint of apology.
"It's alright, I haven't slept yet," Zane replied, getting straight to the point. "Is it about Ahmed's family?"
Lane confirmed, "Yes, Ahmed's family has also hired a lawyer. They found some witnesses from that night to testify that Ahmed's death had nothing to do with you and Ivan. But this time, they've brought in another person."
Upon hearing that, Zane's brow creased. "Another person?"
