Upon hearing Yanis's voice, Alfie turned around to see Yanis standing behind him. "Sister Yanis," he exclaimed.
Yanis crouched down next to Alfie. "What are you doing here? You look so sad. Did Sister Linda bully you again? Or did she snatch your food?"
Shaking his head, Alfie poked at something with a stick in his hand.
"Tell Sister Yanis about it," Yanis coaxed softly.
After hesitating for a moment, Alfie turned to Yanis and asked, "Sister Yanis, why hasn't Uncle Lawrence been coming to the store to see you lately? Is he seeing another girl outside and doesn't want you anymore?"
Yanis couldn't help but burst into laughter upon hearing his words. "He's just busy with work. We see each other every day at home."
Yanis paused for a moment, then added, "And Uncle Lawrence doesn't have another girl outside."
Alfie pouted, "Men's mouths lie like ghosts. I saw Uncle Lawrence with another girl!"
Yanis took a while to react to his words.
Alfie looked at Yanis, feeling a bit flustered. "Sister Yanis, are you sad? I told you he's not a good person, but you never listen!"
Yanis had been thinking about when Zane brought another girl, but upon hearing Alfie's accusatory words, she couldn't help but laugh again.
"How can you still laugh? He has another girl!"
Yanis asked, "Is the other girl prettier than me?"
Without even thinking, Alfie said directly, "I think no one is as beautiful as you!"
Yanis reached out and rubbed Alfie's head. "Uncle Lawrence doesn't have another girl. He said he only wants me."
"Really? Do you believe him?"
Yanis nodded. "I believe him."
After a moment of silence, Alfie said, "Then, Sister Yanis, can you make him come to pick you up at night? I'll interrogate him!"
Yanis nodded. "Okay."
After confirming, Yanis looked at Alfie and asked, "Are you squatting here all by yourself because of this?"
Alfie nodded, "I didn't even dare to tell Mom."
Yanis stood up and pulled Alfie up with her. "Let's go inside."
"Sister Yanis, why aren't you angry?" Alfie asked.
"Why should I be angry?"
"Uncle Lawrence has another girl, shouldn't you be angry?"
Yanis said, "I trust him. He won't have another girl."
"Well, I'll ask him tonight. You must make him come over," Alfie said seriously, looking at Yanis.
Yanis nodded. "Okay, I'll call him later and ask him to come. Is that alright?"
Alfie replied, "Okay."
"Wendy." Yanis brought Alfie inside and looked at Wendy, who was busy. "Are you making dumplings for lunch?"
"Bonnie said she wanted to eat dumplings, so I bought some ingredients this morning," Wendy replied, glancing at Alfie, who was following Yanis. "Did he cause trouble again?"
Alfie shook his head. "No, I was just playing by myself."
Yanis added, "No, he was waiting at the door, and I brought him in."
