I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin) novel Chapter 381

Chapter 381 Desires

Benjamin narrowed his elongated eyes, a hint of cool detachment on his thin lips as he asked in a muted voice, "Who told you I love Lauren? Do you think my indifference stems from loving her?"

Harper paused, her eyes locked on his, even as his question stirred something uneasy within her.

"Isn't that the case?" Harper responded, still gazing into his eyes.

"Of course not!" Benjamin's reply was emphatic as he grasped her hand, his voice calm and gentle. He asked, "Harper, I've never told you that I love Lauren. So, where did you get that misconception?"

"But everything you do seems like a display of love for her," Harper replied.

Her lips tightened slightly, her other hand clenching unconsciously. She really wanted to tell Benjamin how cruel he was, forcing her to articulate how he loved someone else!

Of course, Benjamin didn't know her thoughts, only registering some displeasure on his face as he listened to her response.

"You say everything I do is a demonstration of love for Lauren, then tell me, what do all my actions towards you represent?" Benjamin asked.

Harper was utterly taken aback.

Her eyes widened, and she just stared, frozen and unblinking, for a long while.

Benjamin's soulful gaze fixed on her, the displeasure on his face replaced by a gentle smile as he spoke in a seductive drawl. "Harper, why don't you answer me? After all I've done for you, what does it all mean?"

Harper lowered her gaze, utterly unsure of what to say.

Her heart seemed to stop at that moment.

The air grew so silent that the sound of his breathing could be distinctly heard, along with the scent uniquely his, enveloping her senses completely.

Without Harper's response, Benjamin lifted her chin with his hand, forcing her eyes to meet his.

Those deep eyes stared intently at her, and he whispered, "Harper, answer me, will you?"
