Chapter 44 The Calls

Hearing Benjamin's voice, Harper subconsciously looked up and met his cold, deep eyes.

Displeasure was written all over his face. Harper said with some confusion, "I'm not impatient. Not wishing to waste your time, I got ready in advance and waited for you here."

She thought, "Isn't it better to be early?

In this way, he can be with Lauren openly at once."

Harper didn't understand what he was angry about.

However, she refrained from asking and gazed at him in silence.

Benjamin glared at her fiercely, as if he was very displeased. Meanwhile, Lauren came down from upstairs and whispered, "Benjamin."

Lauren continued, "Benjamin, are you going to go through the formalities later?"

Harper felt that he was probably in a bad mood. After all, he was so cold towards his sweetheart, Lauren.

It would be better for her to say less.

Lauren was delighted and asked, "Benjamin, shall we eat out tonight?"

Benjamin did not refuse and said, "It depends. If there is no arrangement, I will have Curtis pick you up, okay?"

"Okay," Lauren smiled and nodded.

Harper felt like an outsider in that instant, nearly at a loss.

Fortunately, Draven came to remind them to have breakfast.

About half an hour later, after breakfast, Benjamin went out first and got into the car. Harper picked up her papers and hurriedly followed.

They all sat together in the car. Just before it began to move, Lauren approached again and leaned over to peer through the window at Harper and Benjamin. She said, "Benjamin, Harper, I want to extend my congratulations to you both on your newfound single. Harper, I'm grateful to you for taking care of Benjamin for me this year. Can we be friends in the future?"

Expressionless, Harper glanced at Lauren coldly and said, "Ms. Davis, do you like to befriend your husband's ex-wife? I'm sorry. I have no interest in my ex-husband's current wife, so we may not be friends."

"Harper, you think too much. You and Benjamin don't love each other. You got married for the sake of your elders, so it's possible that you can become very good friends after divorce. Besides, Benjamin will look after you in the future. When we get married, it will also be my responsibility, so we can make friends."

"Sorry, I'm not a saint. Ms. Davis, as you please."

With that said, she raised the window directly, successfully blocking Lauren's voice.

Harper turned to Benjamin. "Benjamin, let's go."

Benjamin did not participate in the conversation between Harper and Lauren. After stepping on the accelerator and starting the car, he glanced at her and said, "Lauren didn't mean to be unkind to you. Why did you have such a big reaction?"

"I was stating the facts."

"What fact?" he asked.

"Benjamin, I don't think I can be friends with you or Lauren anymore after our divorce. After all, aren't we supposed to be complete strangers? It will be good for both of us in the future."

Most importantly, Harper still couldn't bear to see the loving scene of the man she loved and his sweetheart.

A qualified ex-wife should never have any contact with her ex-husband.

Benjamin didn't say anything to Harper's explanation. At that moment, her cell phone rang.

At the sight of the caller ID on the phone screen, she frowned and slid her finger to reject the call.

Benjamin noticed it and asked calmly, "Why don't you answer the call?"

"It's not urgent, so I don't need to answer it."
