I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66 It Had Grown

The agent expressed their viewpoint, hoping Lauren could consider it carefully.

Lauren remained silent, just pursing her lips, her expression not looking too good.

The note was straightforward, containing only one sentence. "There's a problem with the new assistant. Believe it or not, you'll regret it if something happens."

Because there was no concrete evidence pointing to Harper's involvement in this matter, Lauren could only bear the suspicion of Harper and act as if nothing had happened.

After dealing with this matter, Harper also sent a message to her mother, telling her, "What you did in my name not only puts me in trouble, but the entire Mitchell family will sink with me."

Jennifer didn't reply, but Harper believed she had seen it.

Everything returned to normal, and the project had officially started. The designs for the exterior and landscaping had all been approved. Harper needed to adjust the construction progress and handle any mistakes that arose.

The project was named Urban Oasis by the Martin Group, and it included office buildings, villa areas, and residential areas.

Every day, Harper accompanied her assistant, Sophia, to the construction site, while other company matters were fully delegated to Frank and those in charge. Because of this project, she interacted with many people every day. She was sincere and didn't put on airs, respecting everyone's opinions and seriously considering them. So everyone liked her, and she received positive feedback at the construction site.

In the afternoon, when leaving the site, it was already dinner time. Charlie walked up to her and said, "Harper, let's have dinner together. The company responsible for interior decoration is having a dinner tonight. If you're available, would you like to join us?"

After recent interactions, Charlie had changed his way of addressing her, directly calling her Harper.

Harper wasn't too fond of these social events, but with so much interaction on this project, if she didn't go, others would feel she wasn't cooperative, and there would likely be friction in the future. So she agreed.

"Alright, I'll follow your car."

"OK."

The dinner was held at a specialized hotel for external entertainment by the Martin Group, a mid to upper-tier star-rated hotel.

Arriving at the private room, they all introduced themselves, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.

After dinner, they were going to the club to sing. Harper was tired, so she declined, saying, "You all have fun. We'll have plenty of opportunities in the future."

Charlie also spoke up for her, so she was able to quickly excuse herself.

Walking out with Sophia, they were met by several flashy playboys, some of whom Harper recognized, known for their reputation in the wealthy circles.

Normally, they would have just passed by each other without paying any attention, but today they were stopped.

Among them, the playboy who could call out Harper's name, Nathan, smiled and said, "Oh, isn't this Ms. Mitchell? Long time no see, still as beautiful as ever."

Harper nodded lightly in acknowledgment.

But the man next to Nathan incited. "Nathan, does she look down on you? Why is she so indifferent?"

"Huh, don't you know that women who look cold on the surface are the most romantic in bed?"

"Hahaha..."

Everyone laughed.

Sophia, who was beside Harper, instinctively shrank back and pulled Harper's clothes, feeling somewhat at a loss.

Harper remained unfazed, pretending not to hear as she looked at Nathan. "Mr. Lynch, if everything is ok, I'll be leaving."

Nathan stared at her with a lewd smile, then stepped aside to give her space. As Harper walked past Sophia, he deliberately leaned in and said, "I heard Ms. Mitchell knows how to have a good time. If you need anything, you can find me. I'll make sure you're satisfied. Here's my number."

With that, he slipped a business card into Harper's pocket.

Throughout the encounter, Harper remained tight-lipped and walked ahead without a word. Behind her, there were whispers and laughter. "Mr. Lynch, do you think she'll contact you?"

"Of course she will. Mr. Lynch knows how to have fun. These women who seem aloof on the surface love good men like Mr. Lynch, who are actually warm-hearted."

The voices gradually faded as they walked further away, until they reached the parking lot and got into the car. It was then that Sophia said, "Ms. Mitchell, are you okay? They were really out of line. Just because they have money, they think they're all that?"

"I'm fine, don't worry. Were you scared?"

Harper smiled faintly, her tone also indifferent.

Sophia shook her head, and then Harper took out the business card from her pocket and threw it out of the window. She squinted her eyes, her expression carrying a hint of coldness, considering their words mere nonsense.

Soon, she pushed this incident out of her mind. The Urban Oasis project was progressing smoothly, and she could finally take a breather.

After the incident at the Martin Manor, the matter of divorcing Benjamin was put on hold.
