"Colbert, are you asleep?"
Colbert's impatience was evident in his eyes as he held his phone against his left ear and heard the voice on the other end. He said, "Not yet."
"I miss you."
Alva's voice was particularly gentle.
"Get some rest. I have things to take care of here. I'll talk to you later."
"Colbert, my parents aren't home today, and I'm a little scared of being alone. Can you come over and keep me company?"
Alva hesitated for a moment before revealing her true purpose.
"I have something to handle right now. We can talk about it later."
Colbert didn't choose to accompany Alva just because of her coquettish words. He responded coldly and then hung up the phone.
Sitting next to Colbert, Eudora couldn't hear who was on the other end of the phone, but she vaguely guessed that it was Alva from Colbert's words.
