Chapter 1240
Cornelia should be fine, right? That was what Marcus was thinking.
Jayden said, "President Hartley, we need to head back to the hospital. If not, Dr. Lester will come to drag you back."
While walking, Marcus said, "Zavier is so heartbroken over Skyler’s death, he can't help Brennen anymore. Without Zavier's assistance, Brennen is practically a sitting duck. I bet he will make a move soon, probably in the next couple of days. Have Ayden keep a close eye on him, and make sure Cornelia is safe.
"Understood." Jayden replied.
Marcus then asked, "Has Old Augustine arrived?"
"Yes, he has.’ Jayden paused slightly before adding, "If Old Augustine learns of your divorce with Miss Cornelia, he'll definitely whisk her off to the Capital. It'll then be a struggle just to catch a glimpse of Cornelia. Why are you still arranging it this way?"
Marcus replied, "Being in the Capital not only takes her away from me, but also ensures her safety."
Jayden was left speechless. President Hartley always had Cornelia's best interests at heart, but never considered his own, Cornelia exited the courtroom, and to her surprise, she saw a crestfallen Grandpa Augustine. Upon seeing her, Grandpa Augustine managed a warm smile and said, "Nelly:"
Cornelia was thrilled, "Grandpa Augustine, what are you doing here?"
Grandpa Augustine patted her head, "I knew today was the sentencing of Granny Rebecca's murderer. So I came to check on you"
Before Cornelia could come up with an excuse, Zack and Abigail approached. Zack was fuming. Even upon seeing a stranger beside Cornelia, he couldn't contain his anger, “Marcus went too far! He had that giant of a man block us from approaching you. He's divorced you and he’s still clinging on, what the hell is he up to?"
"Nelly, did Marcus divorce you?" Though old, Grandpa Augustine had a sturdy constitution. His bellowing voice was deafening. Upset Grandpa Augustine could be really intimidating.
Cornelia didn't want Grandpa Augustine to make any rash decisions on her behalf, "It was me who divorced him, not him divorcing me. There's a world of difference between the two:
Grandpa Augustine didn't believe Cornelia, and turned to look at Zack, "Tell me, what happened?"
With a powerful aura around him, Grandpa Augustine got Zack talking despite his reluctance. He spilled the beans about the whole story. After hearing everything, Old Augustine was furious, "Marcus had just assured me that he would treat you well, and he reneged so quickly. What a bastard!"
Cornelia thought Old Augustine was going to give Marcus a piece of his mind, but to her surprise, he changed his tone, "Nelly, you did the right thing. A fickle man like him is not worth it. Come back to the Capital with me. I'll introduce you to someone much better."
