Chapter 248 Why Would You Steal My Dogs?
Chloe planted a kiss on Joseph’s cheek and changed into her pajamas. “I’m going to take the dogs for a walk. You can head to bed first,” she said.
During her period, Joseph had taken care of walking the dogs. Now that she was feeling better, it was her turn to take them out.
“It’s raining tonight. Let’s postpone it to tomorrow,” he replied.
Glancing at the time, Chloe noticed it was already one hour to midnight. The dark clouds outside obscured the moonlight as if the night itself held lurking dangers, creating an ominous atmosphere.
Feeling an unexplained sense of unease, she nodded in agreement, “Okay.”
The dogs were in the backyard and had the freedom to use it for their bathroom needs, so there was no urgency for them.
Before retiring for the night, Chloe received a text from Xavia, informing her that she would come to see Oreo tomorrow morning.
Outside the courtyard, two professional dog catchers were stationed along the path that Chloe typically took to walk her dogs. However, even at one o’clock in the morning, they failed to catch sight of Chloe.
The two of them conferred and made the decision to contact their employer for guidance. A calm and soothing female voice answered the phone, “She won’t be walking the dogs tonight. Go home, get some sleep, and come back tomorrow morning. Remember to follow the route I
provided.”
“Roger that, miss.
The night rain brought with it a refreshing and delightful atmosphere the next morning. Chloe, who had not walked the dogs last night, woke up half an hour earlier to take Oreo and Toto out. Just as she set foot outside the villa with the two dogs, she received a call from Sophia.
“Chloe, I came to work early today, but the security guards at the entrance aren’t here yet. Do you happen to know the password for the ground floor?” Sophia asked.
“It’s six sevens. Why are you at the office so early?” Chloe inquired.
“I completely forgot to prepare the presentation slides for today’s meeting,” Sophia confessed, “Chloe, I’m heading up. Can you tell me the password for Marketing’s entrance?”
“It’s the same as the ground floor.”
“Oh, I see.”
Sophia then transitioned the conversation to work-related matters and started asking a series of questions one after another. It seemed like she had no intention of ending the call with Chloe just yet. As it was work-related and Sophia was still new to the company, Chloe patiently addressed each question, providing thorough answers.
Chloe was oblivious to the fact that the route she was currently taking was entirely different. from her usual path. Oreo and Toto, on the other hand, sniffed around in excitement, their tails wagging in anticipation. Occasionally, they stumbled upon freeze-dried snacks scattered on the ground, seemingly placed deliberately to guide them in a specific direction.
It was more accurate to say that it was Toto and Oreo pulling Chloe along rather than her walking the dogs.
After ending the call with Sophia, Chloe’s attention was drawn to her surroundings. She realized she had inadvertently walked into a secluded area, away from the view of surveillance cameras. The lack of people in the vicinity raised her suspicions, prompting her to turn around and retreat, tightly gripping onto Oreo’s and Toto’s leashes.
