Putting on a fake smile, Chloe said, "Is it that hard to understand?"
Joseph was livid. "I just want a chance to talk to you properly. Is that wrong?"
"It is.”
"Don't twist the truth here. Where did I go wrong?" he said, refusing to admit his mistakes.
"Did I ever say I wanted to talk to you? Did I ever say I wanted to listen to that recording? Everything you do is based on your own assumption. I don't want to relive those days of unbearable pain. It's no different from being killed all over again!" Chloe shouted at the top of her lungs.
No one knew if she was truly angry or if she was just putting up an act. However, her eyes were filled with tears and she looked pitiful.
Joseph could not bear to see her cry and immediately surrendered. "Please don't cry. I just wanted to explain things. I won’t hurt you again."
"You're just selfishly trying to prove your innocence. You don't care about how I feel at all!"
"I’ll never do it again. I'll change," Joseph promised sincerely, his eyes filled with affection as he gazed at her.
Chloe pushed him away. "It's too late. I'm Noah's fiancee now."
Why should he have the privilege to explain himself and erase all the pain he had caused with just a few words? It was unfair.
Joseph froze. Although he knew that she would not forgive him easily, it still pained him when he heard her say she was Noah's fiancee.
Chloe noticed the change in his expression and felt a small sense of pleasure. However, it did not last long as she suddenly remembered something and asked, "Did Icarus really die?"
Joseph looked at her and replied, "Yes, he did. I was the one who collected his body."
