Chapter 252 Why Does He Hate You?
Listening to the busy tone on the phone, Maggie felt absent–minded and feeling down.
She sat in the car for a while, lost in thought, and then, disregarding her injured ankle, she drove to the riverside to clear her mind.
So much had happened recently–too much to put into words–leaving her feeling choked up
With her injury, walking wasn’t easy.
and uneasy.
Maggie found a bench and sat there, watching the ferries shuttle back and forth across the river. As the sun set, the sparkling lights began to illuminate the surroundings.
The sky wasn’t completely dark yet, but a hint of nighttime chill was already in the air.
Just then, Leo’s call came through.
Maggie picked up the phone. “Leo?”
“Sierra has stepped up to claim the piano video you posted a few days ago. It’s been gaining popularity rapidly lately, with mixed reviews. Leo got right to the point
Going ahead with her plan should have been something to celebrate, but Maggie couldn’t find any joy in it right now.
The more they praise her now, the harder she’ll crash later, Maggie said softly.
Just then, the honk of a car horn broke the silence.
Leo paused for a second before asking. “Where are you?”
“By the river, getting some fresh air, Maggie replied.
“Not feeling too great?” Leo asked in a warm tone.
“Yep.” Maggie didn’t feel like elaborating. Some things were meant to be handled and borne on your own.
“I’ll come over, Leo said firmly.
“No need. It’s not a big deal. I’m just taking a breather…” Maggie tried to decline, but Leo insisted.
Seeing this, Maggie went along with him.
In less than half an hour, Leo showed up behind Maggic, throwing his jacket over her shoulders and handing her a cup of hot milk tea.
Maggie took it, feeling the warmth of the cup against her cold fingers.
Leo settled down next to her, his tall and slender frame showing strength. Without his glasses, his cool face revealed a pair of sharp, piercing eyes. Shedding his usual facade, he appeared mocking and detached.
He asked softly. “What’s on your mind?”

Leo lit a cigarette and placed it between his lips, gazing into the distance at the river. He spoke slowly. “You used to say, why bother with right or wrong, as long as you know what you want.”
Maggie chuckled softly, her gaze dropping.
“Back in those days, we were so carefree. We thought those times weren’t good enough, but now I realise they were the best,” she said.
“It wasn’t about how great the Camerons treated her, but rather the joy she found after being taken in from the cutthroat orphanage, the happiness of youthful naivety thinking she’d broken free from fate’s chains, and the happiness of realising life still held boundless opportunities.
Because of her youthful recklessness, there were so many things she didn’t dare to do but dared to dream of.
“I’m not sure what I truly want now, Maggie murmured, her eyes reflecting a hint of uncertainty.
I want to stick around Nathael, but I fear having top many memories linger
I hope he won’t get hurt, but I’m afraid he’s destined to be let down.
I wish him all the best, but I refuse to let Timmothy control myself.
“Pass me a cigarette. Maggie’s gaze was cool as she realised that loving someone comes with both sweetness and bitterness.
Leo flicked open the cigarette box and handed it over. Maggie took one and placed it between her lips.
She didn’t smoke much. It didn’t fit the image of the pampered daughter of the Cameron family,
But with the Camerons‘ fortunes on the decline, despite her loyalty to them, she couldn’t help feeling restless and found herself seeking an outlet from time to time.
