Knowing that the resignation issue could not be settled soon, Ximena did not say anything more. She escorted Freya into her house before leaving, secretly planning to check if there was any house for sale near her Auntie's employer tomorrow.
Freya stood in front of the window, watching Ximena's car gradually move out of her sight. Her nose itched, and tears inadvertently slipped out from her eyes. She held her chest tightly with her hand and began to slowly pat it. Old memories once again came rushing to her mind.
*
"Freya Fu!" Jenna yelled at her sister sharply as they all stood in the heavy rain, her hair sticking to her face. "You're not my sister anymore!"
"Freya… How could you do this to your sister?" Manson burst out angrily. Even in the heavy rain, she could see that his face was full of disdain, as if he was looking at a filthy object. "I will never forgive you for your nasty behavior."
* Freya smiled bitterly, tears spreading quickly between her teeth. The salty taste of her painful memories made her heart ache like it was being cut by a knife. She could no longer bear it.
Knock! Knock!
Freya listened to the knocking on the door, but simply ignored it. People who knocked on her door in the middle of the night could not be anyone decent. However, the knock on the door didn't stop, and the sound was not violent. It was very elegant and regular. It seemed to her that it was a very cultured person on the other side of that door.
Freya took a deep breath, wiped her tears with the back of her hand, and then turned to open the door. A man in a neat suit, looking very aloof, was standing in front of her. His aloofness was the same as the rain outside, making her feel depressed and unable to breathe.
"Who are you?" Freya asked in a low voice.
Ken looked at her, nodded slightly and said, "Hello. His Highness would like to see you now." Although his words were stern, there was still some respect in his tone.
Freya was no longer the person who had been condemned in that rain so many years ago. She had been in prison for fifteen years and had been making a living at the bottom of the society for so long. A lot of things had changed. So, even after hearing that the most powerful leader of QY Island wanted to see her, she didn't panic. Instead, she just asked calmly, "Excuse me, but may I ask why His Highness wants to see me?"
"It's about Miss Mo," Ken said, without lying.
Freya laughed at herself and wondered, 'His Highness, who holds the lifeblood of an island's economy, wants to talk to me about my old days?'
"Just a moment, please," said Freya. "I need to change."
Ken nodded and waited silently.
