Chapter 138 He Could Never Be Happy
Meanwhile, Clarissa just ate her dinner quietly downstairs.
“Please leave some food for him,” she said to Mrs. Faber.
Thanks to Damien’s unprecedented rage, Clarissa’s ecstatic mood was affected.
In order to cheer her up, Grandpa Lawrence decided to chat with her.
During the conversation, Clarissa did her best to keep her spirits up and suppress her high strung emotions.
After dinner, Clarissa received a Whatsapp message from Rebecca.
Rebecca: (I just sent my resume to the HR department of New East Corporation. The position I’m applying for is the finance director.)
Clarissa: (Really?)
Truthfully speaking, when Clarissa heard the news, she was very happy for her friend. Rebecca was the perfect candidate who could take over Howard’s position as the finance director.
Rebecca: [Yeah. Joseph was the one who told me to apply for this position. Originally, I shouldn’t be considering his offer. But since the company is New East Corporation, I might as well do him this favor and have him owe me one.)
There was a smiling emoji at the end of the text.
Clarissa: (Awesome! Once you’re hired, we’ll be colleagues!)
As Clarissa wasn’t affiliated with the HR department, she had no idea that the department had yet to put out a recruiting announcement for the vacant position of the finance director to job-listing sites.
That meant Rebecca had already sent her resume to the HR department before the recruiting announcement was made public.
Soon, Clarissa headed upstairs.
Damien put down the book and gazed at her steadily. “When am I allowed to go visit your mother?”
“Are you for real? Let it be known that I’m not forcing you to do this.” Clarissa sounded skeptical.
“So, when?” A hint of impatience could be detected from his tone.
“Since today’s Friday, how about tomorrow?”
“Fine.”
Clarissa started feeling nervous even though Damien had agreed with her. She was thinking about what she should be mindful of throughout the whole visit.
She leaned against the bed frame as she planned out every detail.
“By the way, you mustn’t tell my mom that we‘re married because of the marriage contract. I’m
worried she might be sad,” Clarissa requested, turning around to grab Damien’s arm.
“Okay. I won’t say anything.”
Mom’, so she didn’t continue
the introduction.
“I heard about you from Clary. You may be young, but you’re already very successful,” Theresa said as she looked at Damien. Damien stared at her as well. Both of them didn’t look as distant as strangers should be when they first met each other.
“Is that so?” The corners of Damien’s mouth twitched slightly before a forced smile appeared on his face.
“Clary, hurry up and fetch Damien a chair,“ Theresa urged.
There was a couch in the ward, but Luke had already taken up the only chair.
Clarissa was about to leave the ward to fetch another chair when Luke spoke up. “Mom, where are you going to live after you get discharged? Seeing as your daughter’s very filial, why don‘t you go live with her? Why do you insist on cramping up my house? My place is super small, after all Besides, I have a girlfriend who’s living with me. It’s very inconvenient for us if you moved back to my place
“Luke!” Clarissa yelled. That must be the reason why Luke and Theresa were arguing just now. In the first place, the ownership of the house Luke lived in belonged to Steven and Theresa.
“Clary, kick him out!” Theresa did her best to suppress her anger.
“If I don’t get a reasonable solution for this matter, I won’t budge even an inch from this spot!” Luke crossed his legs and started to make a fuss.
Just as the situation was about to escalate…
“That’s easy. I’ll buy each of you a property that has four rooms and two common spaces. Mom can have one, and Luke can have the other one. There, problem solved,” Damien suddenly said.
However, he sounded very cold. Typically speaking, now that he had tracked down his savior and found out how he could repay his family, he should feel quite happy on the inside. However, he found it difficult to do so.
