After Clarissa picked Bethany up at the station the next day, she rushed back to the university to attend the assembly. Hence, Bethany ended up attending the assembly as well.
Since Clarissa was a lecturer, her seat was assigned on the third row. By the time she and Bethany arrived at the hall, the majority of the attendees were already there. She was afraid someone else might recognize Bethany’s identity as an outsider, so both of them kept a low profile.
The huge banner hung in front of the hall wrote “Congratulations on becoming this university’s honorary professor, Professor Highmore!”
Seth maintained his chivalrous appearance as he stood on the podium. The moment he noticed Clarissa, his gaze lingered on her for a second longer.
“Doctor Highmore sure is handsome, huh?” Bethany whispered, tilting her head.
“He looks fine, I guess.” Clarissa’s gaze remained glued on Seth’s form.
Seth was in the midst of giving a speech about his feelings when he found out that he was going to become an honorary professor. After that, he gave an oral presentation on the art of hypnosis to the students.
“Huh… You seem pretty focused on him. Do you fancy him or something, Clarissa?” Bethany teased.
“Screw you. I’ll tell you the details tonight.”
“No problem. You can tell me everything while snuggling with me tonight,” Bethany joked in a lewd way.
The assembly stretched on for two hours.
By the time everyone got out of the hall, it was already snowing heavily.
“Wow, it’s actually snowing! The weather in Florin is much better than Genovia. After all, there aren’t any snow days there this year.” Bethany stood at the entrance of the hall as she stretched out her hand to catch a few snowflakes.
“Yeah,” Clarissa breathed out emotionally.
She gazed up at the fluttering snowflakes that descended from the sky.
Why was it that whenever Clarissa found herself out in a snowy day in any country be it Merania and Lotharia, she would be reminded by the scene of Damien waddling through thick snow just to reach her? She could never forget that memory, no matter what. Back in Lotharia, she used to spend every freezing winter on her own, and that made her feel extremely lonely. Sometimes, she missed Damien till her heart started aching, but the thought of him doing such unspeakable crimes made her heart freeze.
Having thought to that point, Clarissa was reminded by the fact that many years had already passed, which made her feel sad and lonely again.
