Burying her head into his chest, Carla moved one arm to lightly massage her belly. Then, she suddenly had this weird feeling, thinking to herself, 'Just how could the baby have possibly appeared in my belly like that? It really came out of nowhere.'
Looking back on everything that happened, she realized that from the moment she got engaged with Noah, the two of them—she and Terence, that was—couldn't contain the urge to make love with each other. And every single time they did that, they didn't have any contraceptives along with them.
From that, she thought that her pregnancy did not just come purely by accident, rather, it was something that was bound to happen sooner or later.
Be that as it might, she just really wasn't anticipating anything like that whatsoever. Being completely unprepared, she was suddenly hit by the realization that she was about to bring a new life into the world. Everything was happening so fast.
Also, she never could've thought that Terence would possess such a strong heart to readily take responsibility and accept the fact that he was about to become a father. Midnight had already struck, and Carla still kept on tossing and turning on the bed. At that point, she realized that without Terence next to her, she probably would've stayed up all night.
"Terence, I'm having trouble trying to get some sleep."
As they were enveloped by the darkness, she moved over and leaned against Terence's chest, yet she still wasn't feeling sleepy at all.
"What's the matter? Is there something wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable?" Terence worriedly asked her in a gentle voice, stretching out his arm to turn on the bedside lamp to check how she was doing.
Carla firmly shook her head and proceeded to wrap her arms around his waist and embrace him.
She told him, "No. It's not like I'm sensitive or anything. Prior to the doctor telling me that I'm actually a few weeks pregnant, I couldn't even tell that there was something inside me at all."
Terence shifted his gaze to look into her eyes. A smile instantly crept onto his face. He reassured her by saying it wasn't her fault in any way. "That's just normal. We are going to be parents for the very first time. So, it's quite understandable that we're not used to any of this. But I was honestly so surprised and extremely excited as well when I heard the news earlier today. I felt like this child was a gift given to us by God."
If it weren't for Carla falling into the water, then they never would've needed to come to the hospital.
And because of how frantic he was, he headed straight for the obstetrics and gynecology department upon noticing there was no one waiting in line.
If those things didn't happen by chance, they probably would still be oblivious of the fact that Carla was expecting. Fortunately for them, they found out at just about the right time.
There was no way to be certain that the child wouldn't get hurt next time by accident. For that reason, all of it seemed to have been perfectly laid out by God.
"We should be thankful to God. I have been on pins and needles about giving my grandfather a great grandchild all this time. Now I can finally put my heart at ease." Terence couldn't stop himself from feeling excited and chuckled lightly, placing a kiss on Carla's forehead to express his gratitude.
When he was done talking, Carla gently slapped his face. Feeling a bit cheesed off, she protested, "So that's how it is. The child is far more important compared with me. You've made me suffer so much before, and you've also added my number on the blacklist of your phone. Now that your child is living inside me, your attitude toward me changed significantly. Isn't that right?"
Without uttering a word right away, Terence gave her a smile and pulled her arm to plant a kiss on the back of her hand before clearing things up.
"I have my reasons for doing that. Do you seriously have doubts whether you are still in my heart or not?"
As he told her that, he hugged her snuggly in his arms and then went on and added, "Get some sleep now. You shouldn't be staying up too late now that you're pregnant. Let's just talk about this in the morning."
Carla couldn't do anything about it because he was right after all. Letting out a soft sigh, she did as he said and closed her eyes while still lying in his arms.
