Chapter 187
The pro gamer had just executed a flawless combo, the sounds of victory echoing in his headphones,
“Killing!”
He thought he had nailed his opponent once again, but suddenly, his screen went black.
On the projector screen in his streaming studio, bold letters appeared: You has been slain!
Sweetheart was stunned, and so was the pro gamer.
Neither had seen what exactly had happened, and the chat went wild:
–“What just happened? Did I miss something or is there a glitch? How did Sweetheart get taken down?”
–“I’m shook!”
–“That’s gotta be a hack, right? Dead twice and still manages a comeback?”
While everyone was in shock, the game screen flashed with Learner’s message, “Three strikes, now it’s my turn.”
Such cocky words carried the weight of an entire army, leaving Sweetheart to swallow hard. She muted her studio speakers and turned to the pro gamer, “What’s going on?”
The pro was bewildered, “Must’ve been a fluke. I didn’t expect to get caught and taken out by tower damage. No worries, we’ve got this.”
Their mid–lane mage had a nifty trick – a freezing spell that could immobilize an enemy for two seconds. The pro had been a bit too aggressive, trying to score a kill under the tower, when Learner, almost by accident, caught him in her icy grip, leading to his demise.
He chalked it up to pure luck.
Relieved, Sweetheart reassured her viewers, “Guess I didn’t pay enough attention, folks, No biggie. Let’s give her one kill to save face, so the poor thing doesn’t start crying for real.”
The audience breathed a sigh of relief, but some remained skeptical:
“Sweetheart is always careful with her positioning. It’s not like her to get caught out so easily. That play
was no accident.”
“Hey, everyone has off moments. Maybe Sweetheart got cocky. It’s all good, wait for the next round!”
Amidst the discussion, Merry jumped up, shouting, “Lia, you’re a beast!”
Lia looked up, her gaze oozing confidence, “This hero is too easy.”
Merry was speechless. Alright then, boss lady calls the shots.
After that exchange, Cordelia asked, “Those fancy fireworks effects on her kill, where do they come from?”
Merry didn’t game much, but she knew the craze around this one it was all over. “She paid for those. Three bucks a pop.”
Hearing “paid for,” Cordelia fell silent. Merry was bracing for a sneering comeback when Cordelia said, “Oh, forget it then.”
Merry was puzzled. Was Cordelia seriously sweating over three bucks?
Merry’s lips twitched, “Lia, let me gift you some effects to taunt her!”

“No need,” Cordelia replied slowly. “She’s not worth it.”
Merry was taken aback. Just moments ago, Sweetheart had showered Cordelia’s digital corpse with a dozen. effects, and now… with Cordelia’s dismissive “not worth it, it somehow felt brutal.
Lia’s words were few, but when she spoke, they hit hard.
And her ability to scorn was unmatched.
Merry wished Sweetheart could have heard that.
The game continued.
After respawning, Sweetheart returned to the battlefield more cautious, hunkering down under her tower’s
protection.
But Learner couldn’t resist the bait and overstepped.
The pro gamer smiled and cast her freeze.
But in a flash, Learner blinked out of range and counter–casted her own freeze!
Caught off–guard, the pro was frozen, and Cordelia’s ultimate ability crashed down upon him!
After dealing the blow, she confidently turned her back, stepping out of the tower’s reach.
The sounds of defeat echoed again, and the screen read: Learner has slain Sweetheart!
Back–to–back defeats left Sweetheart flabbergasted. She turned and blurted out, “What’s going on?
The chat was a blur of question marks.
Then came Learner’s final onslaught.
Kill! Killing!
With each takedown, she didn’t push the towers; she just waited for Sweetheart to return, only to be sent back to respawn with a swift combo.
After each kill, she ignored the fallen and casually strutted back and forth.
The pro was shaking, his confidence shattered.
Sweetheart muted her mic and demanded, “What’s happening?”
The pro swallowed hard, “I don’t know, she suddenly got good.”
Ace hissed, “How’s that possible? She couldn’t even play this hero at first. How did she get so good, so fast?” The pro frowned, a theory forming in his mind. Learner let him hit her, studying his moves, learning. And having learned, her reactions were sharper, her plays better. How could he possibly win now?
In seven minutes, he was killed seven times, a fate he would have met more if not for respawn timers.
