Floyd's gaze was fixed on the ground, his fists clenched tightly.
He stared at Yates for a long moment before letting out a low chuckle. “Yates, I'd rather have you hate me.”
After uttering those words, he stood up and took a step back.
He looked at Yates again and finally spoke. “You can't join the team. In the world of pro gamers, it's either you or me.”
With that, he turned to leave.
But just as he reached the door, he suddenly heard a noise from behind.
Turning around, he saw Yates had grabbed a nearby glass and hurled it at him, shouting, “Floyd, go to hell!”
However, the glass missed, whizzing past Floyd's side.
“Crash!”
It hit the ground, shattering with a sharp sound.
Floyd looked back at Yates, his eyes filled with bitterness, but he repeated his stance. “If you still consider me your brother, then stay out of the pro leagues. No matter which team it is, if you join, I'll leave.”
After saying that, he pushed the hospital room door open and walked out.
From the moment they heard the glass break, three people outside rushed in. As they entered, they caught Floyd's harsh words. After Floyd left, the trio turned their gaze to Yates.
Merry was livid. “Damn! Yates, you've never been treated like this in your life! It's just the EW Club. Why not just buy it out and see how he likes that! The Big Boss might be tough, but can he really monopolize the entire esports world?! He's way too arrogant!”
Yates remained silent, his face dark.
The more Merry thought about it, the angrier he got, continuing, “I used to admire the Big Boss, but I never expected this. His words were just too much. Right, Lia?”
Cordelia nodded in agreement, assuring Yates. “Don't worry, I won't go.”
How could she join Floyd's team after what he did to Little Flame?
Yates, still upset, suddenly rolled over and buried his face in the pillow. “I need some rest.”
Merry and Cordelia exchanged looks and nodded in understanding.
As they left, Cordelia realized that Everard, who had been standing beside them, had quietly disappeared.
---
Outside the hospital.
As Floyd stepped outside, he immediately straightened up at the approaching footsteps and respectfully called out, “Mr. Watkins.”
Everard, with his hands in his pockets, had become colder and more intimidating after leaving Cordelia. Even Floyd, a feared figure in the esports world, struggled under his imposing presence.
Floyd kept his head low.
Everard took a step closer. “Aren't you afraid of making me angry?”
Floyd slowly lifted his head, fear evident in his eyes. “Yes.”
But he spoke firmly. “But I have someone I need to protect.”
This statement made Everard frown.
After a moment of intense gaze, Everard scoffed and walked away.
Once he was gone, Floyd wiped the sweat from his forehead, having felt the murderous intent from Everard for a brief moment.
Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Floyd made his way back to the gaming club.
Night had fallen.
With Yates out of danger and no immediate concerns, Cordelia and Merry agreed to leave.
Just as they were leaving, Everard's arranged luxury car pulled up.
Merry was momentarily taken aback. “Brother-in-law arranged a fancy ride for us?”
Without giving it much thought, they got in and headed back to school.
On the way, Cordelia sent a message to Gamer. “I'll only team up with Little Flame.”
It was her final stand for her friend.
After sending the message, she put her phone away.
Arriving at the school's gates, Cordelia was about to climb over the fence when she noticed a security guard waiting, apparently for someone.
“Why's he still waiting for someone this late?”
Cordelia froze for a moment, then saw the security guard wave at her. “Hey kiddo, hurry back to school. It's way too late to be out and about!”
Nodding, Cordelia made her way back into the school.
Given that it wasn't high school, the dorm management was pretty laid back, so she easily slipped into her dorm and quietly pushed open her room door to get back to her bed.
---
Cordelia didn't respond.
Undeterred, Queenie continued. “This is a place for studying, not for your late-night romantic adventures! Can't believe you were out till the wee hours. Do you even have a sense of propriety?”
