The classroom was silent as a grave.
Hayley glanced at the riches scattered across the floor—maybe a dozen or twenty gems, each as big or bigger than the one Cordelia was holding. A riot of colors sparkled under the sunlight, suggesting a value of millions.
Could it be real?
That was the thought buzzing in everyone’s head.
Even though the class was filled with kids from Greenmeadow's most prestigious families, none of their families were known to casually wear a box of gems as accessories.
Yet, the quality of those gems, shining and translucent under the sunlight, didn't seem fake—at least, they would still be worth a fortune even if they were.
Everyone gulped, and Daniel finally broke the silence, "Cordelia, those gems of yours... they’re worth a fortune, right?"
Cordelia shook her head, "Just a box of rocks, really."
The class was dumbfounded.
Their eyes then drifted towards Juliana's finger. The 50-carat gem that once seemed impressive now felt insignificant...
Juliana quietly slid her hand into her drawer, removing the ring with cheeks flushing in embarrassment.
At the same time, irritation bubbled within her. Where on earth did Cordelia get all these gems? And to showcase them right when she flaunted her ring—it had to be a deliberate slap in the face!
Cordelia, oblivious to the brewing storm of thoughts around her, bent down to gather her gems back into the box.
She then turned her attention back to the ring, planning to return it to Midnight Scent after school.
After organizing her things and sitting down, Cordelia reached for her phone and messaged Skyler—since their last case together, they had exchanged contacts for easier communication.
LearnLover: "Would it be possible to use your system to look into a car accident from six years ago?"
After sending the message, she thought of Mr. All-Round, who had introduced her to Skyler. Hence, she sent another message to him: "I’m asking Skyler to look into something for me, is that okay?"
Mr. All-Round replied instantly: "Feel free to use him."
